I noticed this recently, there are very few conspiracies in countries (that or no one ever mentions them) other than america, (I don't count earth is flat people ect.) so what non american conspiracies can you guys think of, I'm having trouble.(please don't defend or denounce any conspiracies suggested.) I am an Australian and the only one I know of involves prime-ministers and submarines)

Prime Ministers and submarines? Would you care to explain that in more detail, because that sounds awesome, crazy conspiracy or no.

I think Americans tend to gravitate towards conspiracies because historically we've been raised to question and challenge what authority tells us (particularly post-Watergate). Because of this mentality the more ignorant members of society are eager to latch onto conspiracies as a way to feel rebellious and empowered.

Well there aren't any British ones I can think of except for our own UFO stories. Also we invented crop circles so I guess there's that... although we know they're fake now.

edit: Also Ley Lines, we're fairly big on those. They're like magical lines that go... somewhere and do... something. I dunno.

OR SO THEY SAY.

The beginning of every conspiracy theory reemergence... :p

I don't honestly know, though Neverhoodian has a good theory.

I love conspiracy theories, even if I think they're bullshit. They make for amazing stories.

In Canada..... well Big Foot. We also have the Quebecers. *No offense to anyone from Quebec but you want to separate so you have conspiracies*.

Im not too sure if this counts as a conspiracy or some kind of drug educed theory but there is a surprisingly large amount of people who genuinely believe that the English royal family are actually a bunch of space lizards and they claim to have "proof". Weirdos

Well, aside from the entire British government being lizard people, I suppose. But that's every government, so it's not your fault.

If I had to guess, it's because us Americans have been spoon-fed stories about heroic rebels defeating the government for years and years, and since the government isn't tyrannical enough to warrant open rebellion, we invent conspiracy stories and New World Orders to feel like it's the revolution all over again.

That's my personal theory, at least.

Not sure if this counts but there's still a lot of people in Ireland who believe that Flight 712,which crashed into the Irish sea in 1968 killing everyone on board, was actually shot down by a British missile

Don't you guys have a deep-seated public paranoia of Totalitarian states or something? Big Brother's legacy, as it were?

OT: Americans have more Conspiracy theory's because they generally have more free time.

Also, Lol.Americans.XD.

Although it's crept into America as well, all the stuff about El Chupacabra started in Honduras, I think. Large conspiracy about genetic mutations and being tested on local livestock for... profit? or something, there never really is a why. Don't believe it but it sure makes for some good scary stories. Started babysitting my cousin's kids and chupacabra is a recurring character in their late-night scary stories (that they ask for, they love them)

The best conspiracy theory is an international one- where all the elite people around the world are all a secret race of lizard people from the center of the earth. Kind of like 'They Live' but something about said lizard people trying to reclaim or rape the world of resources after escaping miles underground when their own surface-civilization collapsed. That or they were driven there. Either way, its hilarious to see and hear the people that actually believe it, write books about it etc etc

Harold Holt, our 17th Prime Minister, disappeared while swimming and his body was never found.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_Holt#Speculation

There were many rumours surrounding Holt's death, including claims that he had committed suicide or faked his own death in order to run away with his mistress. The mystery became the subject of numerous urban myths in Australia, including outlandish but persistent stories that he had been kidnapped by a Chinese submarine, or that he had been abducted by a UFO. In 1983, British journalist Anthony Grey published a controversial book in which he claimed that Holt had been an agent for the People's Republic of China and that he had been picked up by a Chinese submarine off Portsea and taken to China. Many of Holt's security detail had testified to seeing bubbles mysteriously surround him before he slipped beneath the waves. Much of this suspicion stems from the simple fact that his body was never found.
