Bronze League. The greatest proprietor of fine cheeses. I managed to Roach-Drop my way into Silver. But I play on U.S. Currently my problem lies in League of Legends where the matchmaking insists on giving me bad team mates.

That is why I never play RTS games online.Because even against the worst of the worst I alwasy get my ass handed to me.

As much as I love RTS games I will be the first one to admit that I suck at them.

You're experience is not unique, unfortunately. The majority of Starcraft players I encountered online (back when I wasn't jaded by RTS multiplayer) always employed cheap tactics or rushes to end the game in the first six minutes. Eventually, you just have to power game; block off your base with buildings and spam cheap tactics until you win.

i have never come away from a Starcraft match thinking, "wow that was an epic battle". More often than not I came away thinking "Wow that was a tense battle". The only enjoyment I took from it was the relief of survival. What I went in looking for was a nearly cinematic match of wits. I guess I'm just a dreamer.

Don't worry. You'll get better once you start thinking like the other players do. It just takes time. Maybe study some battle replays on youtube? Look for effective tactics?
I've always been an above average starcraft Player, and RTS in general player. But I've never really figured out what 'cheese tactic' means. Well, unless it means 'Tactic that beats me' or something. Maybe "Tactic I didn't expect to be so effective".

It's like the noob-tube in FPS games. It beats the pros so it's obviously a noob thing.

*sigh* My poor Starcraft.

Yes, it is possible a ton of people are throwing placement matches to just go "HAHAA! Look at ME STOMP THESE NOOBS! I AM THE AWESOMEST THING EVER!"

But then, I figured that the problem may be a bit deeper than that. The problem for me in the new Starcraft 2 is that now everyone seems to treat it as a professional game. You are online to WIN WIN WIN, ANY MEANS NECESSARY.

Sure, that is fine....if you are actually there to rank up all the time, win tournaments and things like that. But a lot of us are not cut out for that, no matter what we think. We don't have a build memorized of every race down to the seconds counting down to know what is going on. We are there to enjoy ourselves, make possibly an epic army or two, and possibly get thrashed a few times by people who are actually "Pros".

Yeah, I feel disenfranchised from the new Starcraft 2, and online play in general because I find that everyone is always there to be competitive and win. Fine to do that when it matters in tournaments and the like, but not all the time. Cause that really leaves no place for people just there to play to.....well, play.

Problem solved.

Edit: And while I am here, I will shamelessly advertise [http://starcraft.org/fanfiction/stories/1037] something of mine that is Starcraft related.
