You know the online game DRM, Steam? (dumb question) I don't know why, but it has been constantly going offline and saying it has something to do with maintenance lately. I can barely get through a L4D campaign without it starting to lag terribly and then kicking me out of the game entirely. At first I thought it was the server or graphics, but it's been Steam for the past few days.

Anyone have any idea why it might be doing this so much lately?

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure there was a beta of a new version of Steam coming up soon. They're making adjustments so it will be bumpy for a while.

I don't have any answers, but this is Valve. They'll fix whatever it is that's wrong, no matter what it is or how long it takes, and you can be damn sure that Steam will be better in the long run for whatever they're doing. It's probably something they could just slap a patch over and call it a day, but they're setting something in for the long-haul. Remember, the new UI beta just went up, so it might be something to do with that, or (as I've noticed lately in CoD matches) something is causing massive server lag and they are trying to fix that. Also, I'll guarantee that the server is experiencing a heavier load lately, what with CoD and BC2 released.

So, patience, young padawan. Time is something we can all afford if it means a better experience later on. ^_^

Yeah. I tried out the new beta. Then there was a steam update and my steamclient reset itself. When it did, it went back to the original format for some odd reason. The Beta was alright. It had a lot of bugs (that they are obviously fixing). It looks good so far though.

only problems i've been having with steam are related to today's Dawn of war 2 patch, adding all the Chaos Rising content. For a few hours today once the DL got to around 15% it just kept starting over. However, it's almost done now (2.7gb, ouch) so that problem didn't really last long. on the other hand, due to the servers being busy, it wouldn't even let me start the patch or the game, and while patching you can't even play the single player. So I haven't been able to access the game I paid my money for all day, but that isn't entirely valve's fault

I really like the look of the beta, but damn it has been buggy as all hell. nothing that can't be fixed though.

I was beginning to wonder if it was just me.

I haven't played much online multiplayer, but I've noticed the community page keeps switching between normal and maintenance randomly.

Ehh, I wouldn't necessarily call Steam a DRM program. DRM means Digital Rights Management, aka, the protection in a piece of media that is supposed to prevent people from getting illegal copies of it.

Steam is a Digital Distribution service. An online marketplace, if you will. Big difference.

Regardless, I've noticed the issues, but I love Valve enough to let it slide.
