For many years, Multiplayer gaming and I had an understanding; I didn't do it, it left plenty of room on the disk for an engrossing and enjoyable single-player mode. Whilst sitting around the PS2 with a few friends was fine, the moment the Internet was added things tended to go downhill; my few attempts at online PC gaming had generally ended due to a spam-rush, which didn't go down well with me as I don't enjoy that style of play at all.
The final nail in the coffin for me has to go, unquestionably, to Halo 2. I played quite a few games of Halo 2 with friends, and we went online for some of them. I'm not going to claim I was totally clueless, because I wasn't. It was just that too many games involved Campers, or retarded lunatics bouncing up and down spamming grenades, and of course the endless verbal diarrhoea that spews over the chat system... it all reached the point where I just said "fuck it", and swore never to touch the cess-pool that was online gaming again.
Well, Metal Gear Online managed to improve Multiplayer's reputation for me, and Resistance 2 restored my faith in Humanity (or, at least, the bits of it that owned a PS3). Finally, I can look at a game for its Online capabilities! Huzzah!
This brings us neatly to Warhawk. Warhawk is a game that always tempted me in a rather childish "lookit the Airplanes!" kind of way, but even having forgiven the Internet I still haven't become blissfully ignorant of reality, and thus one major hurdle remains; Multiplayer Only. As much as Warhawk sounds fun, I am concerned about the Learning Curve will be far too unforgiving. I don't really like the idea of trying to work out how to make the aircraft go up and down whilst being fired at by AA missiles every ten seconds, and respawning three minutes away from a new vehicle.
Anyway, all of this is probably not helpful to anyone, so let's get to the point; just how Newbie (un)Friendly is Warhawk? Is it a game you can pick up quickly, or does it involve several days of being murdered horribly until you discover by dumb luck which button fires missiles? Does it have a tutorial system, or do you just get the controls in the manual and have to hope for the best?
