Does anyone know of a way to clean a controler short of tearing it apart. I have been using the same Dualshock 3 since winter of 07 and its starting to feel a little disgusting.

Edit: I have gotten a rag wet and whiped it off multiple times and it still didn't work. It also seemed to cause some issues with it connecting to my PS3.

I just use those disinfected wipes I have laying around my house.

Leaves my controllers nice and clean.

Those wipes that you can get to clean cds work well for me.

You could use a more detergenty kind of wipe, but I dunno about the extra chemicals. And the cd cleaners are designed to be non-corrosive.

I run a knife round the seam of the controller, maybe the shoulder buttons aswell then maybe a damp cloth over the rest of it then dry, does me anyway.

I have nothing except to go over the little gaps with a tooth pick. You may be surprised how much muck you can get out. Wash you hands before you play because unless you sweat a lot while you play it will stop it getting ditier

When I had an 360 I noticed that so much dirt got in the seam. Removing that stuff was oddly satisfying.

I just wipe stuff off with a cloth or knapkin.
Also, does anyone know what that brown stuff that forms on controllers is?

Yeah I do tend to sweat a little with how long I'm using it. And I have mutiple times cleaned the seam on the controlers but just no that stuff is building up on the rest of the controler.

My best guess would be a massive build up of dead skin and grease?

Probably nothing healthy.

OT: I just wipe it off. I can never ever ever get that stuff out of the crack though. I've tried toothpicks though. Didn't work too well

Oh...yikes.

Um. I guess use a sanitary wipe or something?

By the way, what the fuck have you been doing to this controller to make it so gross?

Like I said I have been only using this single controler since winter 07. Mostly because its my only Dualshock 3. Whats realling happening is that stuff that you find in the seems of the controler is finaly finding its way onto the surface.

I use a dental pick if I've got one handy (I do a lot of craft projects) or a box cutter or xacto knife blade if not. Works splendidly.

I'm not exactly sure what a dental pick is. One of those little metal things they jab into your cavities? And for the xacto knife, seems rather dangerous for the controller. Those things are sharp! No way I'm putting it near my assortment-of-wires-covered-only-by-thin-plastic (controller)

Yup, that'd be it. You don't use any force with the knife - the tip of it is perfect for getting into the grooves and cracks of the controller to push the gunk out. I've done it lots of times with no ill effects. With anything else, just be a bit careful and you'll do fine.

I tend to use a nail file to clean the buttons out, and eventually, one the grime has gotten very bad, will use a barely damp washcloth and rub very hard against the remote, quickly followed by a thorough drying.

Seems to work.
