Controlling, overbearing parents

Okay, I thought here was a thread like this before but I searched and couldn't find it so I'm starting a new one. Sorry if it has been done before.

So, the other day I was thinking I may have a party for my next birthday, but some of my mates don't live nearby so they'd have to stay over here. I thought I'd do the right thing and warn my parents, I'd like a party and a few mates would need to stay over, and they said fine. Then today Dad says we need to have a chat and suddenly they start saying about how WE need to plan everything, WE need to think about timing and making sure furniture gets moved and all that.

Now, I am 19. I am a mature and sensible 19 year old who wouldn't say PARTY AT MY PLACE, BRING MATES DRINK AND CONDOMS on Facebook, I wouldn't let people bring loads of alcohol and anyone with drugs wouldn't get in the house. Even so, they still think I need Mummy and Daddy to hold my hand, and that they need to remind me that we don't want anything damaged, do we? It's really pissed me off, so much so that the party idea has been totally called off.

So, the point is, do your parents still treat you like a kid? Do you wish they would treat you more like a grown up? Or do they actually treat you like an adult?

Also, any tales of things that parents have done or said that prove they still see you as a kid?

I only talk to my parents when they help me move in and out of my dorm room each year. Otherwise, the only family member I talk to is my brother.

I get along with my parents quite well. They treat me like an adult (which I am) but I still call them for advice or assistance when I need it. And I hang out with them fairly regularly, just to catch up or whatever. It's a pretty good set I got goin'

They don't really get the chance to, though, living in a different city and all that.
The only thing they demand is that I call them every now and then and visit every six months or so.

my father was a terrible man who thankfully left a long while time,course my mother left for england not too long after (not after him of course,there actually divorced and she even remarried).also she recently stopped communications since my brother isn't joining the branch of the military she wanted him too.

so no,they don't really bother us.

You live under their roof, their rules, even when they are overbearing. Aside from not having a party at your place, why not have one at a friends who's parents are a bit more liberal?

Then you're SOL IMO. If you still live with them, I don't think you can really blame them for making sure everything goes alright.

Well in that case you pretty much have to put up with their shit. As some other guy said, why not hold it at another location (a friend's house) if it's such a big deal?

Hmf, I'm only 14 and I get treated more like an adult then anyone in my age group, I'm pretty much the only 14 year old except for my girlfriend that knows how to be responsible, show respect, and acually listen to the world news.

People call me weird because I listen to the news on the radio and watch the news insted of watching some dumb ass reality show, just to let you know, we're all living in the reality show called life, get used to it.

Well i digress, my parents let me be indipendent, I do my own thing, sure i have to ask them if I can have parties or go out and whatnot, but they usually say yes.
