Help me out folks. I am converting to PC, and I want something that can run most anything well. And I am on a bot of a budget, so tell me; is this a good deal AND a good computer?

I'm a little curious as to why anyone would buy a Q-type processor (Intel's pre-"i" series quad-core processor) now that virtually all anyone is selling in the non-budget Intel line these days are the i3, i5, and i7 chips. You can get an i7 chip from NewEgg right now for considerably less than the builder allegedly paid for this Q9550 last year.

The 4870 isn't a bad video card, by most standards, but the ad cagily doesn't note whether it's the 512 MB or the 1 GB model.

That the ad's poster touts spending upwards of $1,400 on the system and is selling it for $650 sends up huge warning bells in my mind. Especially on Craigslist. "Lifetime warranty"? Good luck following through on any of that.

If everything is on the up-and-up, the system described would probably play most games that are out now reasonably well, but will start slipping badly when the next console generation comes out, and have very little upgrade path (the Q processor in particular means the motherboard's upgrade path is likely just about nil.)

Personally, I'd advise against it.

It might even be a good system--it'd run rings around mine--but the ad smells fishy.

If you're not willing to build your own I'd suggest looking to get a brand new system that has a good CPU in it, then upgrade the video card and/or RAM as needed.

"Ati 4870 (can crossfire- add another 4870- for $50) (overclocked to stock GTX 670 performance"
'
Completely bullshit.

"Q9550 (never overclocked, but can easily go till 4 GHz- comparable to a stock i7 3770 performance"

Also complete bullshit.

I had a q9550 and switched to i7 2600k and considering that q9550 used 100% cpu in bc2 and my i7 2600k used around 20-30% so completely bullfuckingshit lie

yeaaaaa I'm just gonna agree with everyone and then add that buying electronics, especially computers, off craigslist is just a bad idea. Get yourself a brand new system, because computers don't age well if they aren't handled properly.

EDIT: oh, it changed, well in that case, still get one from a retailer.

And also that fact that a current gen high end i3 would run rings round that Q9550
