Having said that, anybody from BioShock, Dead Space, Brothers in Arms, Half-Life 2, or Mass Effect. They're all amazing.

Dead Space? all the supporting characters in that just order you around! The best sidekick in that game was my trusty ripper...TundraWolf said:
Johnny Gat from Saint's Row 2. Honourable mention to Dom from Gears of War, who lost because of one too many ***** fests about his wife.
Johnny is a reckless hedonist with a penchant for murder and violence. He gets shot at one point protecting you and his girlfriend, but otherwise can be called to go terrorize Stilwater at a moment's notice.

Minsk from the Baldur's Gate series was amazing. He was a pretty formidable warrior, but his real charm was in his characterization. And in his Miniature Giant Space Hamster, Boo.
Coming a close second has to be Wrex from Mass Effect. Between his dry wit and penchant for asking other party members who they think would win a fight between them and Shepherd, he was great. And not a bad asset to the team, either.
