It suprises me that this topic is searchbar approved and there haven't been more buzz about it here on the forum..
Aaanyways, i just wanted to know your opinions about it, and if anyone even knows what it is.

The UN Climate Conference in Copenhagen. (EDIT: But I see you've already found out.)

OP: There are dozens of different aspects to discuss, why not narrow it down a bit and, well, start the discussion instead of just throwing the keyword into space and tossing us a link?

I do not understand politics. I need shit that blow up for me to get interested.

It seems like it has something to do with the climate... Are we finally making a deadly weather-weapon capable of destroying entire nations? That would be climate-related (sort off) and would cause explosions! If that's the case then I'm in!

Copenhagen Protocol? It's actually kind of important - Kyoto Protocol runs out soon, but we still need some treaty on emissions' reduction. Remember - it's not only greenhouse gases and global warming (somewhat debatable), but also a sizable quantity of stuff that's actually toxic (not debatable).

I hope someone will at least try to follow it.

But... you know...

This approach is even better.

tbh, I care about climate change not politics. fuck governments, its gonna take some heavy industrial research investment to get us out of this shit hole. The only thing the governments really going to change is taxes on petrol and shit.

Goddamn retard convention is more like it.

Wish I was over there with a ninja mask and some molotovs instead of watching really bad dialouge unfold in the new Doomsday Arcade episode...

"Dear leaders of the world. We have gathered here to ignore every other major problem in the world and instead focus on one with an obvious solution. Thank you, for coming"

Random Country 1: "Well I have an idea! What if we develop HUGE rockets and we all relocate to mars and let little robots clean up the world for us?"
Random country 2: "You just copied that from WALL-E, asshole!"
Random country 1: You callin' my idea unoriginal? That does it. SOLDIER!
Soldier: "Yes sir!"
Random Country 1: "Prepare an accidental Nuclear launch...these gits are goin' dooowwwnnnn..."

Yeah, it'll probably go on like that.

It's not that Global Warming isn't an issue, it's that the answer is so obvious and a convention is really just a waste of time.

Yeah, so i heard, 'tis good to see the danish anarchist movement is doing something worthwhile once again.

But i digress, politics and the escapist forums seldom mix very well...

(also: venlig hilsen!)

Icelandic, lived there for a few years though, Copenhagen is also my favourite city, it's not suffocating in it's size like London or something, but still it has all the pro's of a big urban megapolis...

Also the hot dogs and beer over there are to die for :)

It will destroy us all!!!!!!!

/panic

Seriously, I'm against it. There's something fishy about it. And I don't even believe the global warming panic. It's not as dangerous as people think. Hell, might not be dangerous at all. There are other ways to save the world for us. Like, fix the economic crisis, stop chopping down the rain forest, introduce capitalism. (Although that last one might just be propaganda)

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought the last time one of these Climate Change Conferences was held was in Tokyo in the late '90s(?). If so then what happened there was big oil companies told Government leaders that global warming was not as bad as the smaller under-represented environmentalists (and some Pacific islanders too) were saying and that there would be a huge economic collapse if we the major countries (USA, China, UK, ect) stopped using the proposed 20% (?) of our energy. So then the major countries agreed on 5% decrease and even then we've discovered nobody followed that, if anything it increased (especially in America--the country with the largest amount of energy used). So now some Pacific Islands have disappeared off the map because of the rising waters. That's probably going to happen again.

EDIT: Ok sorry it was in Kyoto Japan, and it was called the Kyoto Protocol.
Here is a Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyoto_Protocol

the medias are just making some buzz about the environment, it's a good thing... but not when they speak just about that all week, when elsewhere lots of things are happening!

Like most government programs it's all just talk. Atleast in Copenhagen they're doing something relevant to climate change what with all that hot air they're spouting (Heh heh).
