So I bought Warp on PSN. I played a little while in the bedroom before moving to he living room. Like most games, I intended to upload my save to the cloud and download it to the PS3 in the living room. Not this time though, the save file is copy protected and while I certainly can upload it anytime I like, I can only download it after a 24 hours wait.

Someone tell me why?

Sometimes there is no why. Sometimes, the DRM is just there to make you angry.

That was a joke, but in all seriousness, I can't imagine why there would be a wait like that on a cloud save. Transferring the whole game, maybe, but I've never heard of a save file being protected beyond some mild encryption to prevent cheating by editing values buried in it.

It seems it's done to protect the stupid trophy system. So much for the argument "if you don't like Achievements/Trophies, just ignore them".

Just last night I tried to backup my characters on Dead Island just in case I was hit with save corruption for whatever reason and I found out it was "copy protected". It's irritating, I don't care about trophies and they just bother me since they kick in my OCD and hinder my enjoyment of the games I play.

I've had similar problems in the hard drive age, bought Demons souls when I was at home and played it on my brothers ps3 only to descover that I couldn't take the save back to uni with me. So had to start all over again when I got back. No idea why I assume trophies or something. It really annoys me cuz half the fun of ps2 was being able to take save games to your mates house and showw them the awasome character you'd made or help them past a hard bit, the hard drive saves and online only multiplayer are taking the actual social side of gaming away.

I found this on the Wii too, and it annoys the hell out of me.

And the Wii doesn't even have any 'achievement' system or anything like that.

Now, most games will let you copy the saves, but at least two games I know of will not. (nights :journey of dreams, and Super Smash brothers)

What seems to be the destinction? Well, both games have some sections to them that have fairly extensive customisation. (Brawl has custom level designs.)

But, more crucially, I suspect it's online features. (Yes. Wii. Online. I know, that sounds weird.)

Nights actually has an online leaderboard. (And it probably shows how obscure that game is that I'm something like 30th on one of the levels, and was even 8th for a while...)

As for brawl... I don't know, but it has online functions, custom content, and a huge amount of unlocks.

But whatever the reason, it's still really annoying. Especially since it means I can't backup my saves. At all. Grr.
