Eh, not something I've run into a whole lot -- this being the precise reason I avoid PC gaming at nearly all costs, unless a game is PC only and amazingly awesome.

Copy Right Protection screws you [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-uulRB1OmY]
Err, NSFW.

What is SecuROM? [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKUPYMxkbVY&feature=related]

So yeah. Wow.
I knew everyone here hated EA, but it took me a while to figure it out.

Consider this a thread to discuss your frustrations, your work arounds, and warnings to people like me, who before now, didn't know how badly PC gamers were getting reamed.

I haven't ever had problems with SecuROM, though I do share the frustration some feel towards EA and other companies that use it. I don't have a huge issue with limited installs provided they remove the limit further down the road (as they did with BioShock), but it's mostly disc checks that annoy me. Recent versions of the DRM haven't had those, but if they are present then I always crack the game if possible, for both my own convenience as well as to speed up start-up time and, potentially, performance. I'm really not too thrilled about it, but I'd rather contribute to the market by supporting the developers and buying the games they spend years working on than I would take a piss on their creations. It's not their fault their games get saddled with this crap.

I will never buy a PC game with DRM or SecuROM on it. That is why I have waited for the PS3 version of Bioshock and why I will never buy Mass Effect on PC. Maybe EA should make a PS3 version of Mass Effect based on the PC version, then I would buy it.

Stardock and Bethesda are my current hero PC game companies as they both say "To Hell with DRM!". DEATH TO SPORE! Limited installs are also a major rip off. As a person who re formats my system twice a year, installs are very important to me. Three installs? BULLSH*T!!!! Eat a d*ck EA. Because all EA is trying to do is limit used game sales. They DO NOT WANT US TO BE ABLE TO SELL OUR USED GAMES! That is evil, like in fruits of the Devil.

DRM and Limited Installs both blow a dead goat. End of story.

Used games are sort of a double-edged sword. While it's good for cash-lacking gamers and especially independent video game stores (which make nearly no money from new game and console sales), those sales aren't recorded and the original developers see absolutely none of the profits. I never buy used games unless absolutely necessary, because I really think developers, especially smaller ones, both need and deserve my support.

That is all well and good, if you can print cash. Unlike me, who has a very limited income. If I tried to buy every game new I would be unable to pay rent or buy food.

And both of these points are moot as the whole idea of a producer of a good trying to limit the consumers very ability to sell that good used is just wrong. Imagine if you could not sell those used CD's. Or cars. Or anything for that matter. Imagine if you HAD to buy everything NEW. That would suck monkey choad, aye?

I never buy used things. I prefer the security (and smell) brand-new products bring.

If you're strapped for cash, I understand your situation, and it sucks. Doesn't mean I think it's the best idea to buy used games or pirate them, but then, I'm not you.
