do you think that Core gaming is going to more or less die out and "casual/social" gaming will take over?

reason being I think I heard that quoted from a few people in the industry from some articles or whatever

I dont really see how that could happen as grindfest MMO's and angry birds arnt really the same experience as mass effect or Assasins creed,

or would the buisness model change? instead of buying the complete product would it instead become about downloads and micro-transactions?

I don't think so, hopefully there will just be a good balance of core and casual, something for everyone. Yes there is a rise in sales in casual games but core games are still going strong and there will always be people who play both.

Oh, and seriously, why don't you use capital letters at the start of sentences???

I think there's plenty of room for both. Now, I won't lie...I really have drifted closer to the casual side of things. I only buy about 5 or 6 new video games a year, and I think in the past two months I've already bought more games than that on my iPod.

But I never grew up being a hardcore gamer anyway. I don't think either are really getting in of each other.

Angry Birds existing does not make the latest Call of Duty sell fewer copies.

No, the industry is just expanding. There's no "vs" here. There's just two types of gaming, and there's plenty of room for both.

I seriously doubt that the casual gaming industry is going to "overrun" the video gaming scene, but I can see it growing and becoming a massive nuisance for people who actually like games.

For instance: Due to the large number of Halo fans worldwide, a game series that should have died out is now going to continue and will therefore continue to get rave reviews. In addition to personally bothering me wondering how Halo 3 is a perfect 10 and Devil May Cry 3 was only a 9.5, this will convince developers that halo is doing something correct and they will all try to emulate it one way or another.

But maybe I define casual gaming differently, I see it as people who only play a certain type of game. Like people who ONLY play shooters or ONLY play sports games, or puzzles. You know, those people who have no real variety to their game library and contribute to EA being a MASSIVE corporation.

So, yeah, I think that there will always be a place for hardcore gamers and there will always be games for them to play. But casual gaming will probably become the "Mainstream" of gaming culture and hardcore gaming will re-become "That thing that nerds do."

Core games wont die out but they will be ignored more since core gamers are too divisive.

Not something I can really be bothered worrying about. If it happens, it happens. In the meantime, all I can do is buy and play the kinds of games I enjoy.

If, at some undefined point in the future, the likes of Mass Effect and Half Life are entirely replaced by Angry Birds and Farmville then I guess I'll just find another hobby.

thats the thing though, with "gaming as we know it" I dont see that happening, I mean big loud dumb films like transformers earn much more money than well made films like true grit

but people still make such films and indie films....so yeah, thats what I dont get what thease people are saying, applying that logic to films would mean ALL films are on the same level as transformers

but gaming as we know it will definetly change one way or the other, as it always has
