At least according to my dad. I thought he was just one of those people that thought "cartoons are for children" and that anime/animation couldn't possibly be mature and should only be aimed at children. When I asked him why he didn't like anime, he gave a bunch of nonsensical reasons (it's not realistic, it's "lame", the characters make weird faces etc. I'm sure you've heard these all before), then he said that people dress up as the characters and have sex with old men for money. Seriously, what the fuck? I tried explaining it to him, and he refused to listen, and he was being completely serious. How am I supposed to talk to someone like that? I've liked anime pretty much all my life, and his utter rejection of it has always been infinitely frustrating, but I had no idea he thought like this.

Is your dad a big fan of anything? If so you could probably ask how it's any different from anime fandom. If you try this make sure you plan out something good to say because you'll only get one chance.

I think it's a case of Animation Age Ghetto, where he thinks anything animated is for children, show him that anime can be adult too...obviously not H-Anime, orelse that would seal the whole thing, show him Death Note...or something, or if he doesn't want to watch it, try watching adult anime near him and see if it piques his interest. :O

Like, say he smokes tobacco. Start going on a tirade about how all tobacco farms are using underage children as a labor force, and try not to listen to him.
Eventually, when he gets fed up, say 'it's just like what you think with anime'.
It may not win him over, but hopefully it will give him perspective on it.

I've been in the same boat somewhat, and as someone who's spent many years trying to introduce a parent to anime/comics/newer forms of entertainment, I can tell you that sometimes it's just not going to happen. I'm not saying it's not worth trying to convert him, but it's just a possibility to be aware of.
Depending on the age of you and your father, well...different generations are different in terms of accepting of new/different ideas or concepts. For example I know a group of folks where I work that they're in their fifties or so and they are stubborn towards most new things. They're old-fashioned guys and they believe all guys should be as such. Show too much emotion? You're "being like a woman". Don't like/didn't play sports? What the hell were your parents teaching you? I could go on but I think you get the idea. There's nothing wrong with it (despite it being aggravating when they loudly speak about it in reference to people like myself), but it can be darn disappointing to have to deal with people who are simply 'old-fashioned'.
Set yourself a limit. A sort of 'I give up' point. Yes, this is something you want to share with him, but all kids want to share things with their parents and oftentimes what the kids what to share doesn't sync up with what the parents want to engage in. (Ask many of us who have tried introducing our parents to gaming!) If you go past the 'give up' point, don't take it as a failure, but just as a sign to stop wasting your time and energy on trying to bond with him over this, and a sign to move on to finding something different or better to bring you two together. It can take a few attempts, but it can be done. However being stubborn and prolonging the attempt when it's clear it's not going to work is just going to hurt things.

Accept that he doesn't like the stuff and move on with your life. According to your profile your a legal adult(if you live in the US, at least) and can do whatever you damn well please.
