i just found out the other day that costa rica is the only country in the world without an army. i think this is stupid because anyone could invade and take over the country, i could get 20 friends and we could invade and nothing would stop (apart from maybe the UN). this could be a clever idea because instead of paying for munitions and aircraft etc, more money can be spent on schools and hospitals. but alot of employment is in the military so that could also be a problem, also are we (all other UN countries) covering the cost of protecting costa rica which would inturn cost our counrties money.

this got me thinking do you think it would it be a good idea if ALL countries military were scrapped overnight?

if the armies were disbanded, there would just be militias. everywhere.

then there would be faction wars all damn day and night.

Costa Rica still has a police force and more than 20 people who would oppose your invasion. Costa Rica has 109 football teams, and any one of those have more than 20 people who would put stop to your invasion.

A country's army isn't the only thing that's stopping it being invaded, most of it's citizens would form a militia or resistance movement. Against invading "force" of 20 people they'd just laugh at you, beat you down and throw you in jail.

You'd think a country riddled with the most amazing cocaine and drop dead gorgeous prostitutes would be an intriguing target...

Really though, just because you can do something doesn't mean anyone should... or would. All it would do was give the victors something to babysit.

i was "negativelty exaggerating" but you know what i mean, a small ex-special forces mercenary team could easily take-over

Yeah, just because they don't have an army you can take 20 friends over there and park your cars on the border and the next day you have a country to annex.

You'd not make it past the first urban STREET because the people would probably come out and slit your throat. Some of the most ferocious fighters in history have been common folk who've had their defenceless homes attacked and they had to retaliate with farming equipment or whatever the hell they could get their hands on.

I've lived in Costa Rica for 2 years, and I can tell you that there is still police. The only reason they don't have an army is because they have no enemies. The United States has an army because it likes to stick its nose in foreign affairs, which Costa Rica does not do. Having an army would just be an expensive waste of time.

OT: For the same reason, if all armies were to be disbanded, all hell would break loose because, unlike Costa Rica, everyone will want to attack their enemy, but will have nothing to attack with.

I assume they must have enough allies to not even need an army, beside they have to have cops at least...what's in Costa Rica that makes it worth invading anyway?
