Could I get sued?

Ive been thinking about doing this for a while. Me and my friend want to make a spoof of all the classic JRPGs using RPG Maker XP. We were thinking about calling it something along the lines of "Super Chrono Dragon Final Life". It will spoof the following, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest, and maybe more if I think of any. I was wondering if any of these right holders could sue me if I ever released the game even if I posted a disclaimer. I mean if I really had to I guess I could just change the names and appearances of the characters a bit. But I remember a group that wanted to remake a few scenes of Chrono Trigger in 3D and Square Enix forced them to stop. Also since I'm posting this topic, would anyone actually play this game if it were ever released? We want to spoof all the cliches of JRPGs, like being able to walk into anybodies house. We might make it so that when you walk into someones house they yell at you or call the police. Plus we don't want to do a lot of censorship so when you walk into someones house they could even be in the middle of using the bathroom or having sex. All the characters are in 8-bit so its not like you could actually see anything, if you've seen anyone naked in code monkeys then you probably have a pretty good idea of a naked 8-bit person.

As long as you are not making money off of it and leave warnings of the content, you should be fine.
And um... This sounds like a bad game......
I second this.

Long and pointless titles usually show that the game tries to look better than it is.

Besides, 8-bit characters having sex? Esh.

you can get sued for anything. We live in a very litigious society. Unless you directly infringe copywrite it's not worth it for anyone to do so though.

PS: Using owned resources, such as sprites, names, and other trademarked things is a nono. you have to alter or create the content, even if it's done in a way that it is clearly inspired by the subject, in a "this is totally not cloud nudge nudge wink wink" kind of thing.

Ok I think I'm still gonna make it though. The game is supposed to spoof other JRPGs. The name is long and pointless to show a point, that the game is stupid and nothing will be taken seriously.

Basically, you can't make any sort of money for it nor can you take -any- credit for what your ripping off. Otherwise you'll get boned for doing this.

I concur. The game sounds like it would be shit, though.

There is a difference between a stupid-good game (Sam and Max, Monkey Island) and a shitty-bad game (...your).

Alright since everyone is telling me this is going to end very badly, would anyone like to tell me why? The things I mentioned were just ideas. I'm open to suggestions. I want to reach and audience and right now I'm reaching for adult. I just want to do something funny, nothing deep or serious. Their are not enough comedy games out their. To give you another idea I want to do something like Awful Fantasy Six, if youve ever heard of it. Except I'm going to do it from the ground up revolving around an organization that want's to take over the world but is lead by a very incompetent leader. The reason the leader wants to conquer the world is that he was picked on in High School. Anyway the player must stop him after his girl friend (I'm thinking a sprite version of Tifa from FF7) is kidnapped because the player was one of the bullies at the high school and this is the villain's personal way of getting back at them. On the journey you will find a lot of people that join your party from other games. But this is just and idea. I may make something different. Besides Sam and Max is pretty much just random things happening anyway with some puzzles and is smartly written. And that is what I'm going for. But someone please just tell me why this sounds like a train wreck.

Parody is protected by every form of intellectual property law that will ever realistically be enforced. Using actual sprites from these old games or even recolors of them is, however, almost certainly illegal. You're going to need to make all of your resources from scratch.

Parody is protected, and as long as you don't copy any code, artwork, or text you're "safe"

That said A common way for companies to shut down projects is to take legal action even without any infringement involved. THey do this knowing that people will rather just drop the project rather then spend the money or time in court.

In many places anyone can sue anyone for any reason. Whether they can make it stick is another matter.

You could call him Clod. He could have spiky black hair and have a ridiculously huge HAMMER.
Called a smasher hammer.

First issue I have with it is that it has all been done before.

Second issue I have with it is that you automatically assuming having nudity is the only way of showing sex, using their 8-bit style to hide it (oh please, don't say you were not assuming this, you wouldn't have mentioned nakedness otherwise).

Third issue I have with it is that unless it is written better [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paragraph] than your posts I wouldn't actually be able to make sense of it.

Jesus, what's your problem? His post is perfectly fine unlike some "u guys kno what game sux" posts here. And please point me to the full, completed RPG parody game. Otherwise get your stick out of your ass and let him work.

Neverwinter Nights 2 parodies NwN + PRC pretty well.
