I have had this problem with playing some games on my computer ever since installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit; before, I had Windows XP Professional 64- bit and they all worked absolutely fine.
Basically, with various games, when I attempt to start it up, the window for the game opens, but it is only a black screen. I can hear the sound, and can technically navigate around the screen (I can hear the sounds of the mouse pointer being moved over icons etc.). It is essentially as though there is simply a black screen over the game stopping me from seeing anything, despite it being fully functional.
The games it has happened to so far have been The Sims 3, Age Of Empires 3, and Warlords Battlecry III. I can understand maybe WB3, it being a 7- year old game, but the other two just confuse me. I have tried updating my graphics card drivers and DirectX, but nothing seems to do anything.
I would be less confused about this problem were it not for only SOME games being affected by this. Stronghold 2 Deluxe, Just Cause 2, Dawn Of War, SC: Forged Alliance and Starcraft 2 all work absolutely fine with no errors whatsoever.

My setup (I'm not sure of everything but here's what I know):
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD5670
4GB of RAM
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Processor: AMD Athlon Dual Core Processor 4850B 2.50GHz
250GB HDD with 300GB External HDD

Thanks for any help you can give.

Update your graphics card drivers. Steam should be able to do that for you if you have it, otherwise check the ATI website and find them there.

Tried that and tried again earlier today, doing both the ATI control center thing and installing just the individual driver, doesn't do anything.

I've found that with Windows 7, most of my games have to be run in compatability mode (Win XP Service Pack 3), and run as Admin.

Hope it helps.

Hmm, I might try running the actual setup or install .exe file in compatibility mode, I have been using compatibility mode etc. to play the actual game but thanks for the advice anyhow :)
