I...uh...well, someone explain to me how My Little Pony is suddenly internet cool?

I mean this was literally a pink plastic doll toy released back in the 80s and somehow its seen some kind of revival that I'm only just getting wind of and I don't get it.

My Little Pony wasn't cool when it WAS cool, well...it was cool to 8 year old girls at least.

So am I missing something or is the internet suddenly flooded with 8 year old girls? Or is it like, playing with dolls is cool for boys now cause we've dropped all the homophobia and all that?

I mean someone cut me some slack and tell a 39 year old guy whats up here. I mean....I used to be pretty damn hip, I think I still am...but My Little Pony? SERIOUSLY?

Really? This thread has been repeated many times, friend. I've seen the show, and I don't find it as awesome as everyone else does, but I can see why they would like it.


Some people find it entertaining. Like how people can still watch cartoons. It's just preference.

It has great animation, lot's of getting crap past the radar, some of the best voice acting in a tv show ever and it's refreshingly cartoony compared to many other new cartoons out right now

Ahh well see I wasn't aware there was a new show. I don't watch TV I just stream documentaries and shows I want to watch on my XBox so I don't keep up with whats actually going on in TV land.

go on youtube and search MLP: FiM. its a new cartoon they made (and by 'they', think the creator of Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends, Lauren Faust). but it was designed with children and their parents in mind (ie so a child can watch it with their mother/father.) then someone on 4chan saw an episode and liked it. then 4chan did what it does.
also, its awesome its awesome its awesome its awesome and the animation is really good.

nothing to do with the dolls, because most of the fans of both genders are teens who were born in the 90s.

i think thats because IRL, and on some places on the internet that arent like the Escapist, there are people who insult them and the show, and theyre completely defensive.

i like some of the memes (hate detected and the fluttershy ones) because hate detected can be used practically and fluttershy is hilarious.

I was flabbergasted at this phenomenon as well; now that I've actually watched the new show, I can say that - while it sure as hell isn't the second coming of Christ some folks make it out to be - it certainly is enjoyable, mostly for its well-written characters. Give it a try, it's really not bad.

I honestly can't see what's so great about it (yes, I have watched a few episodes).

Sure, it's very well animated, but there's nothing special about it, so it makes me think it's as much of a meme as it is a decent cartoon.

I'm not sure that "cool" is the word to use. It's a cartoon, and a children's show at that, but it's a well-written one. The stories are simple but refrain from pandering or talking down to the audience. The characters are likable and more complex than you'd expect given the history of the brand. I recall once hearing it put as "they have personality traits other than being girls." There are also plenty of references that the show's target audience would never get (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Benny Hill, for instance). A major attraction for a lot of people, myself included, is that it really is a relief to be able to enjoy something cute and innocent for once. Don't get me wrong-I love grimdark as much as the next 40k fan-but variety is nice, you know?

This Youtube channel has all the currently-released episodes, and season two should start in December. The two pilot episodes are very different from the other 24 in that they're a good vs evil adventure story and all the others are slice-of-life comedy, but the pilot does provide some important background info.
