This thread is about games made into films. Now I know theres a lot of complaints about how this genre sucks and all this and is mainly due to lack of equipment. I.e there are something's in games that can't be converted to film form or just plain laziness.

So what I'm asking is if you were a film producer/director and you had no limts to what you could do with your film would you make a good job of it a film that pleases the fans and the reviewers.
Also what film would you make. (remember it has to be from a game)

I would also like to add that I am well aware that there has been a few ok game to film movies.

Also this is not a flame thread and I'm not complaining about game films I simply used the opening paragraph as an introduction to my thread.

mmm... i would probably make a "metroid" game... the whole concept is cool and if taken care propperly it would end up awesome, much more than "Alien" also it´s a theme that haves gone into oblivion so it would be probably the only "space-aliens" related movie at the time

Given the budget and the freedom I could easy do better.
I'd get Alex Garland to write the screenplay, either Nolan or Boyle to direct and I'd co-produce.

The film would be Opposing Force and it would have less than 100 lines of dialogue in the whole movie, everything else would be visual. I can't gaurantee it'd be a critical success but it would be different and at least partially faithful to the game, which is better than everything else manages.

I still hold that a movie based on the rebels in Half Life 2 would be a real winner. It would start early on, shortly after the Black Mesa incident with little mention of Gordon Freeman. The rebels go through all sorts of trials and tribulations as the Combine is formed and begins to treat humanity like cattle. As the movie builds to a climax, the prophecy of the "One Free Man" begins to circulate and the rebels rally around the fabled return of Gordon Freeman.

The whole point is to preserve the awesome mythos that is Gordon Freeman. The only problem is, I have no idea where Valve plans on taking the story with Episode 3 and beyond. I think before anyone starts planning a film, they wait until the series plays itself out a little more.

I hate to say it, but I think a lot of the game movies just try to hard to inject plot into a story we (the fans) are already familiar with! This movie is for us, after all, so screw what reviewers think. Most of them hate action movies to begin with anyway. Less talk-y more splosions! I would like to see a game movie (regardless of technological capabilities) that follows the game progression to a tee expect for switching up the action alittle bit (re-write the action cutscenes) and to make it interesting, lets see some perspective shifts!!! Where did Ada Wong go in RE2 when she left (I know there is a bonus section of the game that explains this, but it's just an example)? What was the battle like for the Arbiter after the cartographer was discovered and he seperated from MC? Where is Vergil when Dante climbs the tower? This would expand the story without reshaping it entirely.
I would make the DMC movie, which I hear one is actually in production. We can't be shocked at the end of the film to learn Trishes real identity, because most of us have played the game, so lets get that out of the way early so we have more time for kick-ass action, less cry-baby drama in the last 20 mins. I would put an evil dead spin on it by having alot of subjective shots from the demons pov; getting brutalized by Dante. I would do a perspective shift to Vergil, as he prepairs for battle in hell before he leaps onto the scene. I would use only moves from the game, because they stood well enough on their own. No cheesy Underworld BS when Kate shoots holes in the floor to fall through it. To see Dante's moves and combos come to life would be sweet enough. I don't know if I'd have time to show every boss battle, but I'd definately show all the different weapons he picks up at random times. Personally, I'd include a scene where he fights 20 monsters in a crouded room where there is a lot of stuff to break, and the red orbs would flow into him just like in the game. Why not? It could be visually stunning. That itself sound kinda cheesy, but I'd make it work. Last but not least, lets get an actor to play Dante that ACTUALLY looks and sounds... LIKE DANTE!!!! No casting big name actors and actresses just to have their name in the movie. I think it would work.
