Now I'm not a simple guy, and I'm by no means right-wing about anything. (Except maybe guns, but that's about it.) And while I do feel patriotic often, I'm not so into my country that I need to put the stars and stripes on everything. I haven't even said the pledge of allegiance in... well, it's been so long that I've lost track. But that's just testament to how long it's been.

All that being said, I like country music a lot. And I can't understand why I seem to be the only one. None out of none of my friends like it. I haven't met a single person online who likes it either. Just me, my dad, and for some reason a few girls back in middle school. I find it difficult to dislike an entire genre of music. I mean surely there's at least one artist in every genre that you could appreciate.

I know sometimes country music can go on about Jesus or America, or Jesus AND America. And sure, a lot of country music written post 9/11 is pro-war. But not all of it is about right-wing values. Country can be about love. Country can be about family values. Country can tell a story. Country can also be very fun to dance to. And country can easily have a sense of humor.

I mean, rap seems to be significantly more popular than country these days. And what does rap often talk about? Mistreating women, shooting people, and selling cocaine. But I never fault rap for this because rap is still fun to listen to. Not to mention that rap and country have a lot of subjects in common. (Such as drinking, gold diggers, fancy cars, etc.)

So I guess what I'm asking is, why no love for the country music lately? And who else here enjoys country?

You know, it's funny: I generally give a chance to any kind of genre as long as it isn't country or rap. But like you said, there's at least one artist in every genre you can appreciate. And for me, that'd be Toby Keith and Gorillaz (though technically, I wouldn't exactly call them rap... but they are the only band on my music list that raps outside of Linkin Park).

I guess the reason I don't like country very much is because it seems so very formulaic. Like, not just in subjects, but in the way they write the song. Like how it'll start off with the guitar only at the beginning, and then the full band will come in; a little pause between the first chorus and the second verse with like a small drum fill; and a bridge that doesn't last more than 15 seconds. It's like hearing the same song over and over again, as opposed to listening to a group like Radiohead or Pink Floyd or even Smashing Pumpkins, where they have very clear differences.

Then again, that's just me.
