Hell how much did Trigun, cowboy bebop, or Big O cost to make? Those shows didn't have many episodes either so I'm curious about them the most. (plus I love those shows too :D)
I imagine that Trigun wasn't that costly seeing as how everyone in Japan hated it, lol. I loved that show though.

Personal opinion here, but Welcome to the NHK is worth every cent of those $240,000. I hope it does well in sales.

Holy shit! $780,000 for Air Gear? What a rip-off!
My thoughts exactly, I actually baught the fisrt 6 volumes because Oh Greats got such nice... der... erm, ARTWORK, but F that story. Inline Skaters using DBZ moves against each other, mechs and the military in an online tournament to the death IN CYBER SPACE should not have been that lame.

edit: Also, I can't believe anyone would pay money for Air Gear. It was a show about fanservice. The plot just flopped around and went nowhere.
A lot of shows are (just) about fanservice; some better than Air Gear, some worse than Air Gear and still all of them got licensed. *cough* Ikkitousen *cough* Quality is not a factor. Quality is subjective.

Some people had rather seen the money used for Air Gear to be put to better use. But that can be applied to every anime.
Guuurgh, please don't talk about Ikkitousen... I watched the first series out of curiousity... STILL UNCLEAN, THE RAPE WON'T COME OFF!!!

Guyver 746,665

... seems a touch excessive, as does the $725,665 paid for the 2005's forgettable Guyver remake.
Forgettable? The original Guyver was pretty well known, at least among the 'Akira generation'. It was unfortunate the original series was never finished. But it was good they remade the series.
[nitpick]Also, $746,665 $725,665[/nitpick]

There, I fixed it for you!

I can't be bothered to fuck around with the quote system, so in order:

Manga Entertainment isn't the powerhouse it once was, and it largely plays second fiddle to FUNimation. I'm pretty sure got out of the DVD distributing business, but I could be wrong.

I love the original Guyver series, I have it on VHS. The 2005 remake was terrible.

Well spotted, will fix.

What is with that picture they used for this and most other anime related news that ends up on the front page? It has really nothing to do with the article, and where is it even from?

That is a lot of money.

Funimation is awful. Their dubs are shit and they modifiy the original show. I don't want that at all. I just want the original DVDs/BLU Ray with good subtitles. Don't even bother dubbing it because that costs money.

IMO Fansubs are superior, and it's sad that they are.

edit: Also, I can't believe anyone would pay money for Air Gear. It was a show about fanservice. The plot just flopped around and went nowhere.
Yes, don't do something so you can completely alienate part of your audience, how dare you cater to peoples' wants!

Also, I think you're thinking of 4kids, as Funimation has a lot of really good dubs (personal favorite One Piece [god I can't stand waiting for them to get to Water 7 :(]) and they don't really modify the show from the original (from what I've seen anyway).

And I want the dubs, I love dubs and would gladly pay for them. I don't think one is superior over the other (but I prefer dubs) and see nothing wrong with them.

I don't watch many things Funimation does, but I know for certain Dragonball and Dragonball Z were edited on the network i saw them on. That last part is important because it could have been a network edit as opposed to a Funimation edit.

DBZ Also has famously horrible English Voices. You can like dubs if you want, that's cool. No skin off my back. I've seen some good ones. IMO (and this relies a lot on my personal experience) I've just found so many of them to be garbage in comparison to their native Japanese counterparts I don't even bother anymore.

My issue with that is, not being a fan of dubs, Anime's take years to release here as opposed to months as all the voice work needs to be re-done. It also adds an additional cost on the price of anime because of the cost of voice work. And i've seen some insane prices.

We had an anime store locally here that went out of business years ago, but holy shit if it wasn't price gouging. I'm talking $90 for a movie (yes a 90 minute movie), before tax. If removing dubs would drop that price, I'd be down.

But that's just me.

So thats not a lot of money to get them licenses, at the least individually. No wonder y the majority of them have terrible terrible dubs. If thats the kind of money they spend on them, english VA must work for peanuts >.<
That's just for the license wolf wood.

Get out more? But...I have the Jim Sterling syndrome! If I go outside...I will...i will...

I dare not say. :(
i recommend looking up Guyver, ether the old series or the 05 version, both cover the same ground but the 05 version dose explain a lot of the back story MUCH better. (the old series is like 12 eps long, while the 05 remake is 24)

Ah! My Goddess >.> well, you'd need to pretty much be of the same 'open mindedness' that's the reason we have Bronys.

as for the rest of the list, i won't comment, i've heard of a few of them, but that's it

The sad part is that Nelvanna's merchandise selling dubs are actually way better than 4kids...

Not familiar with Beyblade no? I think it's been around for over a decade now. Think of it along the same lines as Yugioh, only spinning tops instead of cards.

Personally I'm the opposite. I used to NOT have a problem with dubs. The change for me came when I got the Rurouni Kenshin box set back in high school. I watched it in english all the way through then one night I decided I wanted to see what the original Japanese and found I liked it much better. It got to the point where I just can't stand english versions of japanese dialogue (in most cases...the Ghost in the Shell series and Cowboy Bebop have superb dubs that I actually prefer the english over the japanese) because it seems to me that the original japanese voice actors are closer to how the characters are supposed to be represented and, believe it or not, but I think you get a better sense of the emotion in the lines despite the fact that I have no idea what they're saying without subtitles.

The most recent title to hold my "current favorite anime" title is Hellsing Ultimate. Started watching that in Japanese, absolutely loved it. Tried watching it in english and it made my ears bleed. Apparently years of taking the Japanese preference for the above mentioned reasons has tainted me...where I used to have absolutely nothing wrong with english dubs and laughed at the thought of watching anime in japanese, now I scorn the idea of watching anime in english.
