Yup. Langdell overplayed his hand when he went up against EA. If he'd swallowed his pride and been a bit more lenient against such a big corporation he wouldn't have lost his trademark. I'm not complaining though, the prick had it coming.

"(proposed) final judgment" and an "(actual) final judgement?".
I would guess that the proposed one is what is, well, proposed before the final verdict is reached.

This is further great news, though.
As I recall, a proposed judgment is filed by the attorneys in the case, sort of a request for what to do next. If the proposed judgment has been accepted and entered as is, then this mess is over. If not, then we've still got some time to wait.

EDIT: Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer either, but I have spent a fair amount of time in court and law classes, so I've picked up a few things. I was involved in a case with proposed judgments, but its possible that there are other meanings.

EDIT 2: Yeah, that's exactly what this is, it's a filing from one of the attorneys representing EA and DICE, it isn't an actual court order.

Finally this prick was shut down. Common words should never ever be allowed to be trademarked.

This is awesome. I'm holding a parade to commemorate this. Anyone want to join me?
My float shall dispense cookies, cake, and swarthy concubines. Am I in?
Hell yes, you are in. My float will just be a massive Tim-Langdell that everyone can throw stuff at and even defecate on.

It's "proposed" because the judge has not signed it yet (ar at least, as of yesterday). However both EA and Edge HAVE agreed to this (the longer "stipulation" is signed by both their lawyers), so it's basically a done deal.

Well it doesn't necessarily stop him from filing another trademark, but the patents office might be more hesitant this time in granting it.

Here's the longer "Stipulation", signed by both parties (but again, not yet by the judge).

Wow, so the system [eventually] works.

Poor Mr. Langdell. Now he has to get a job. Best of luck with that.

I think we should celebrate by making big signs with the word "Edge" across it in various manners and post them up around Langdell's house.

Under normal circumstances, I try to be careful, measured, and deliberate on my reactions to any news carefully. In this case, my response is...

YES! YES! MAY YOU GO BROKE AND STARVE, YOU PATHETIC LEECH ON SOCIETY! BURN IN THE FIREY PITS OF KARMA, YOU PATHETIC SHORT-SIGHTED IDIOT!

...*ahem*...

So, yes, my response is that I am very very happy, and will greatly enjoy the many Edge-titled games that will result from this. Thank you, EA, and thank you, Mobigames.
