I dont know anyone but my dad (who is where I learned of them from) who even knows who Cake is, so I am very happy to hear you wanted to post it too.
Listening to Prolonging the Magic as we speak.

They're just about my favorite band. :p
I love too many bands to have any definitive favorite (So I just rotate it based on frequency, Cake is one of the higher ones) Currently listening to Frank Sinatra, then likely Short Skirt, long jacket.

Good:

Bad:

The entire trend that happened a couple years back of taking Beatles songs and turning them into generic pop. I can't be bothered to subject myself to listening to any of it long enough to post, but trust me, you don't want to hear the Beatles treated so badly.

To throw a random one out their a local band i saw opening for the gods Anvils best song was a skid row cover that was in the wrong tuning i think he forgot some of the lyrics and his singing was an atrocity to my ears.

Hey, as far as I'm concerned, the more Cake fans on this site the better.

Shame they aren't more well-known, though. Especially since they sound excellent live.

Here are a couple of covers I enjoy more than the originals.
(The original is so 80's)
(Curse you, Wonder Years!)

Perhaps it's because they're a California band, and I live in California, but Cake is really popular. They are played by all the major rock stations that I've listened to (which is a lot, throughout the state) and are generally well liked. And on a semirelated note, when my father was working at Kinkos, before Cake was popular, they came in to his store a pretty frequently to make fliers and promotional stuff for their concerts.

And so I don't divert the topic, here's a cover that I'm suprised I like as much as I do.

Well, that's comforting to hear that they're getting the recognition they deserve. Certainly a different story when it comes to Florida, but comforting news nonetheless. :D

Another one I thought of is Social Distortion's cover of "Ring of Fire". I like Johnny Cash's vocal's more, but I really like the music in this version.

Amber Pacific's version of "Video Killed the Radio Star" is also pretty sweet.

Come to think of it, "Punk Goes '80s" has a lot of good covers...
