Black Betty Remake - Horrible

Live and Let Die Remake (By Guns and Roses, Originally by Paul McCartney for the James Bond Film 'Live and Let Die'), in my opinion, almost on par.

So yes, it is hit and miss on songs, usually, if you liked the original, then listen to the cover, you hate it, but like the Live and Let Die example, I listened to that first, ignorant of Paul McCartneys version, then one day heard it and thought 'wow this is better' without suddenly hating the cover, as I originally heard and liked it.

This might've been a good thread as a poll, sort of a Yes/No/Sometimes option.

Muse do a lot of really good covers, like Feeling GOod and House of the Rising Sun.
And I'm sorry but that Muse cover of 'The House of the Rising Sun', and I would like to speak here as a fan of 'The Animals' (who I know weren't the original writters either), is something I feel doesn't even come close to The Animals' version (especially that intro), sorry, but it's just the way I feel about it, and couldn't let that go.

For those who'd like to compare;

Here's a few songs I found that were really cool. Two of them are from movies.

MirrorMask - Carpenters 'Close to You' done by Josefine Cronholm
(song starts 44 seconds in)

And a collaboration with the original singer. Butterfly Boucher & David Bowie - 'Changes' from Shrek 2

finally a very moody version of 'Comfortably Numb' done by Dar Williams & Ani DiFranco
Then there's a really up beat version of a Door's song...

'People are Strange' done by Brave Combo

Finnally, if parodies can be considered "covers" you have these two gems. :)

'Suspicious Minds' by Dread Zeppelin
off their 2008 album Bar Coda. A mix of 'Suspicious Minds'-'Hey Jude' and 'We Are The World'

and last but not least there's, 'Bohemian Polka' by Weird Al Yankovic

I'd probably go with Killswitch Engage's cover of Hold Diver
and
Rise Against's cover of Any Way You Want It...much better than the Glee version

This is one of my favourite covers that improves the original in nearly every way I can imagine.

Ditto this

Hell, any of machine head's covers easily eclipse the original. (with the possible exception of message in a bottle.)

How in god's name has hendrix not been mentioned yet?

Does that one count? Oh yeah, and there's always this.

Well, i was going to use that, so instead...

The first remastered version of Rescue (renard queenston/mayhem)was terrible...

But the second one, which was very similar to the original was good, even if it was pretty much the same...

Johnny Cash is the god of covers. He played The Gambler, an originally Kenny Rogers' song, One, by U2, Hurt, by NIN and a couple great ones more.

I like it when a band I like covers a song I like from another band I like. Like Killswitch Engage covering Holy Diver by Dio or Sentenced covering The Trooper from Iron Maiden.
