I made this thread because everyone says that Crackdown is the best open-world game ever and what I wanted to know is why?

Before you respond, know that I love Crackdown for all it is I just don't know why

i've never played Crackdown, but from what i hear it's pretty good, kind of like spider-man mixed with a crazed terminator.

I have Crackdown, but I think Prototype is better because you can climb buildings faster.

umm, who says? I own Crackdown; it's really fun and all, but it certainly isn't the BEST open world game out there (that's open for discussion.)

Wait, you love a game but you don't know why? That's like being a chef and not knowing WHY you cook.

By what I understand (I haven't played it very much), Crackdown is a bit unique in that genre. Anybody remember Starwars: Battlefront, and how almost no games were similar to it?

Wait, you love a game but you don't know why? That's like being a chef and not knowing how to cook.
Actually it's not since "why" does not equal "how"

Answer:Crackdown is good because you get to play as a God-Like Meatbag doing insanely fun and sadistic things.
Observation: If more games had meatbags like the one in this they would be much better.

Question: You do know HK47 day is over, correct?.

On Topic: It looks like a good version of True Crime: New York. Without suicidal pedestrians.

...I find something ironic about this statement. Likely the made-up (and misspelled) word.

ANYWAY. I've also heard good things about this game. It is one of the few exclusives that make me want the console.

It is fun (no need to explain it to you, you've played it) and most "open world" games force you into a story or annoying missions or don't give you license to truly "go anywhere." Crackdown just kindof lets you loose in the city to go where you want to go and kill who you want to kill. It's just fun.

IMO inFamous on PS3 is much better, but it's also like 4 years newer. We'll see how Crackdown 2 fares, I'm assuming quite well, with 4 player co-op and all. Kickass.

Expletive: Damn it man, what's wrong with love... for killing?
The fact you can't do anything with the souls, tin can.

Completely off topic, but I love your avatar. On topic, I think it was unique in the sense of the total destruction and leaping around, which Prototype has closely matched. IMO I think it's better.

I liked it for a couple reasons:

1- Your character starts out kinda wimpy (by video game standards anyway), but eventually becomes beyond superhuman. It goes from tossing garbage bins at enemies to chucking dump trucks; from leaping about ten feet off the ground to being able to bound across the cities skyscrapers.

2- Your skills increase in a very obvious but effective way. shoot an enemy? your firearms skill increases. blow a gang member up with a grenade? your explosives skill increases. get to a hard to reach part of the city? your agility skill increases. It's simple but it works really well.

3- The city. Other sandbox games have made better looking environments sure, but Crackdown's Pacific City works really well because it was designed vertically AND horizontally. Most games are set on a grid that's pretty much 2d, where you're just traversing a a space and elevation changes don't really matter. But in Crackdown you can leap and climb up virtually anything, so taking the high ground in a fight creates some pretty fun enemy encounters.
