Hallo there ol' chaps.

I've been catching up on cracked articles I've missed through last week, and I've come across this one interesting catch.
[link]http://www.cracked.com/article_18571_5-reasons-its-still-not-cool-to-admit-youre-gamer.html[/link]

I personally disagree with some of the points David Wong makes, especially when it comes to direct comparison between movies and games, and some of the stuff when it comes to pirating, but otherwise some things are rather insightful.

I'm interested what ya'll think about it.

You've been beaten: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.196927-Cracked-com-and-the-Quote-for-Truth

OT: I think they're funny, and a couple are close to the truth, but they are not right on the button.

Really? Damn!

I tried searching for more obvious words like "cracked" but nothing came up =/

Oh well.

Ignore this thread, please, I'm gonna ask for a lock or something.

Well, to be fair the Escapist search engine is, shall we say, 'quirky', at best.

OT, yeah already read it, the point about comparing games and movies was garbage. "WhenMario comes with dialogue it's crystal clear that gaming wants to become a storytelling medium". Bollocks. Gaming is a gaming medium with a bit of story tacked on as garnish. There are some plot/story based games to be sure and comparing them to movies would be fairer, but the rest of them aren't and rubbishing them for it is pure twattery.

I take offense to the last one. I personally have never pirated a movie, game, or song. Also, you cant compare movies to games. In movies, you watch, in games you are meant to interact, if a game was 50 percent cut-scenes, gamers would walk away or kill themselves. (joke, dont kill me) just like if a movie was stopped even once to ask for you imput, we would all be like "God dangit, i was just getting sucked in." That said, he is right, the plots are usually sub-par. But in order to inprove that, we need to find a way to add plot in at the same time as interactive gameplay. Like bioshock did with the audio tapes you could play. You have to add audio files, or something that gives you plot, while allowing you to advance the gameplay. Mainstream games, unfortunately, are going the other direction. They are adding more cut-scenes, but letting you interact through quick-time events. Someone needs to find a way to add cut-scene type things to interactive gameplay.

Thats my opinion anyway. anyone agree with me?
