This game, looks exactly like Minecraft, it's being made for XBL indie games and a few other minor platforms. I know it looks like a complete Minecraft rip, but hey I'm not complaining, I don't have nor do I plan to buy Minecraft, so this'll do me just fine. I thought I would just pop this here for you guys to take a look at and give your opinions.

There has been extensive discussion about this over the last few weeks. Personally I don't see what the issue is when it comes down to it, Minecraft is a PC exclusive, and for those who don't have a good enough PC, or indeed, have one at all, then they can enjoy an experience that is similar to it.

As for what I think of it? It looks very similar to Minecraft so I don't know what the developer was smoking when he tried to act like it wasn't. Although the graphics seem "better" I actually prefer Minecraft's simplistic style a lot better, it just looks more aesthetically pleasing as it seems intentional. Craftworld on the other hand seems to be like an amateur trying to make proper 3D modelling, at least the fire and tree parts do. The fancy rock types look quite cool.

I have Minecraft so I don't have any real need for this, but if my friends are interested, then I may consider it as currently I am playing MC on an online server with strangers, which can be fun but it's harder to extract co-operation in a SMP server.

There is nothing wrong with what their doing. It's a little sad yes. Really sad if they make significant profit off this while some indi devs struggle to get by with truly innovative original concepts.

Actually I hate that it takes so much from minecraft. Specifically the basic gameplay mechanic and even directly rips off direct crafting recipes. However... I LOVE the graphical asthetic of it, the "promise" of RPG elements and what seems to be readable, and Im assuming writable books. 3 major things that I find to be severely lacking from minecraft.

Honestly, while I give props to Notch for being the first to really get somewhere with it, Minecraft isn't exactly what I'd call an original concept to begin with.

Regardless of how much of a ripoff it is, I'd be quite happy to see a version of minecraft in the hands of a large studio that will take it further and faster than Mojang has been. That said, I know nothing of this stupid and cba to look, but I'm not bothered either way.

Don't forget, Minecraft = Better version of "Infiniminer"

I love Minecraft though. So damn addictive... until I try hopping into my minecart that's already occupied by a skellie...

If they want to do it in an honest fashion, they should license the MC idea from Mojang and dev their own XBLA version. I bet it won't be anywhere near as innovative or continually-developed... and will straight up lift a lot of the core routines from the older game...

And people get so hung up about piracy when those responsible for that often don't make any further money out of it other than "not buying that one copy of that one game".

What if Notch actually wanted to make an Xbox copy of Minecraft but was waiting for the PC copy to be finalised so there wouldn't be the dev nightmare of trying to maintain updates on 2 or 3 seperate versions at once? This would kill the market for it.

I think my problem with it that it doesn't say anywhere that it's inspired by Minecraft or infiminer which it obviously is and inspired by infiminer seems to be the first words out of Notch's mouth

Yknow, it's funny whenever someone calls out a Minecraft clone, the first thing people start screaming is "NOTCH RIPPED OFF INFINIMINER!"

No, no he most decidedly did not. Most people who say that haven't even PLAYED Infiniminer. It's NOTHING like Minecraft. The only thing they share is the basic functionality of being able to remove blocks in the environment, and being able to place blocks in the environment. Which is why Minecraft is INSPIRED by Infiniminer, not an Infiniminer clone.

Aw, and here I was expecting something Warhammer 40k-related.

http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Eldar_Craftworlds

Judging by the screenshots and video, I'd say that if Mojang ever decided to take them to court for copyright infringement, they'd have a hard time proving their innocence. Even the manner in which certain items are crafted are almost identical.

Hahaha, little does this guy know the word Craftworld is copyrighted by Games Workshop (and is used in a video game as well as Warhammer 40K) and if there is one company that is very protective of their property, it's them. Expect this to end in at least a name change, or at most this silly copycat's life getting destroyed by the corporate machine.
Quoted for truth. Games Workshop is very territorial about the Warhammer setting and names. Hell, they've been known to lower the boon on non-profit fan videos and game mods out of fear that it might sully their sacred-cow franchise.

I'd like to state that my previous comment was not to say that Notch ripped it off, but that at it's core, it was heavily influenced (including visually) on the Infiniminer base. And If we're going to be broad as to say that something which visually looks like Minecraft is therefore ripping it off, I find it plausible to backdate the same reference by a few years.

Notch deserves a lot of respect for saying that he was inspired by Infiniminer, and I'm dismayed, dissapointed and a little annoyed that one of the comments on the site is that in the end it will look nothing like Minecraft. Of course it'll look like minecraft. It's like saying "In the Final Version, Battelfield 3 will look nothing like Call of Duty: Black Ops". Sure, the Hud may be different and the gameplay will certainly have a different focus, but as far as 'look like' goes? HA!

Perhaps if they said it "Won't play like Minecraft" or "A different experience than Minecraft". But as it stands, they sound a little like tools.

Ah, at least I'm not the only one coming into this thread thinking I'll see something Eldar related. I fully expect GW to bring the wrath of the Emperor (Read: Legal team) down upon this.

On the "Ripping off Minecraft" note, Minecraft was already sort of a clone of another game and I believe Notch & Mojang don't really care about being copied (That is to say, I think there's a quote out there somewhere that states this).

... Well... I wouldn't say it looks like a MineCraft rip...

I'd say it looks identical to MineCraft with very, very slight graphical improvements.

There are mods for RPG elements and readable and writable books in Minecraft.

Because of you I suddenly have this image of a Dreadnought in a suit bursting through the wall of a courtroom with a briefcase in it's Power Claw.

EDIT: Couldn't find a picture of a Dreadnought in a suit but I found this:

Looks like Minecraft with shittier graphics at this point. Seriously, the axe and torches in that video looked awful. If they do add the stuff they were talking about, it will certainly be different, but at the moment they appear to just be cashing in.

Wow, that is a pretty shameless rip. And they seem very determined on not mentioning Minecraft as even giving them inspiration. I'd say that's pretty low. And I'd also say that the graphics are not at all better than minecraft's. True, there is the occasional higher res texture, but that's part of the problem. A lot of it is low-res, so the differences in graphical fidelity become much more jarring. Minecraft has a coherent style, and since they stuck with it, it all seems to fit together. Also, I would add that minecraft did a quite good job when choosing their color schemes, while this game is, again, all over the place. Things seem too bright(i.e. the grass) or too dark constantly, and I'd say it really hurts the overall look.
This is a clone, and a very sloppy one at that.
