so, i've been thinking of going on a crash diet. one i've been considering is the one christian bale underwent for his role in the machinist in which he consumed 1 coffee and 1 apple each day. sometimes he substituted the 1 apple with 1 can of tuna. so i was wondering if i can make do without the tuna as i hate seafood and lose all that protein. also, anyone have any useful tips for crash dieting or any interesting facts? thanks in advance.

That's a great way to make yourself incredibly unhealthy.
I say go for it. Vanity is always worth potentially seriously damaging yourself.

I'd substitute coffee for something with actual nutritional value, like milk or orange juice or something along those lines. You should have some sort of protein, maybe try canned chicken if the tuna thing is unappealing.

There are various physiological reasons for needing all that stuff, and if you are going to do a crash diet, I recommend talking to your doctor to see what they think. Having a medical profesional monitor your progress probably wouldn't be a bad idea.

Also, I'd wash down some vitamins so you don't get deficient in all that stuff.

Crash dieting is an immense psychological strain, that's why it hardly ever works & is recommended to no-one.
^ Also this.

You'll probably notice sleep changes, mood changes, a vague sense of paranoia that increases over time, short term memory loss, difficulty forming complete thoughts/sentences, and a plethora of other issues.

It all depends on how long you do it. I still say you should probably talk to your doctor about it so that you can at least get a semblance of safety. XD

You do realize that Bale was extremely unhealthy, right?

That his director, and the entire cast threatened to shut down the entire production for health reasons?

ugh... as someone whos actually crash dieted before, I can only say one thing.

Don't. Fucking. Do it.

While I didn't go quite that drastic diet-wise I did cut out eating but 1 small meal a day, at first working in a day or two a week where I wouldn't eat at all. It was tough at first but eventually became a normal thing to do. It's been about a year and a half and I've kept off the weight I lost (went from 215lbs to 155lbs) and haven't suffered any ill-effects.

I will say, a daily multi-vitamin should help offset some of the nutrients you'd be getting from proper eating. In my case, I'd take it early in the morning with coffee and it'd give my stomach a bit of an ache to where I wouldn't really want to eat (one's supposed to take those vitamins with food to avoid said stomach aches.)

Ultimately, know your body well enough to know if you're suffering any ill-effects and take care of any problems that may arise. Otherwise, good luck.

....or you could stop being a girl and actually work for it. have fun being sick, tired, generally unhealthy, and depressed. also looking disgusting. dont forget that. and the cherry on top is if you actually don't kill youself with it you'll just pack on the pounds in delicious fat. happy trails.

Christian Bale is one of those gentically gifted body types, evidenced by the fact that he regained all the weight plus some (muscles) for Batmn Begins in like 6 months. Yes he was dedicated but if you do not have that type of body you cannot handle it.
Assuming your fat, why else to people go on "diets", go on an actual diet, as in way of life. Kick out the bad crap and start moving and grooving. No I ain't blowing smoke. 1 month ago I was fate (240, had been 220 before holidays) getting lazy on my diet again, I should be in the 170 range for normal body composition. I finally got pissed off enough with the yoyo dieting over the last 8 years (Where I have been between 220-260lbs). Research the Ketogenic diet since I had noticed that no-carb versus carbs makes me feel much better (the no-carb) and the Ketogenic diet is a way to live sans carbs. Got me some P90X and started rocking. I've lost 20 pounds (34%BF to 27% in a month (figure 10 of water), built 3 lbs of muscle and in general am kicking ass.

Remember if its easy it ain't gonna work because easy means your not working to challenge yoursel/body and that's the only way to get results, if you aren't motivated enough to work out, eat properly for yourself, you aren't going to be during a loose weight diet. Work hard and get pissed at your fat self or shut up and go be fat.

Seriously ain't trying to rag on you as a fat person myself I am try to get you pissed off enough to want the change. Go take pictures of yourself, naked w/o sucking it in and arms at your sides. Then look at them, the mirror lies to you, those pictures, if not the health benefits should get you angry.

Christian Bale was doing it for a role, meaning he most likely was able to afford to have medical professionals on standby. Losing that much weight that quickly is incredibly dangerous, not to mention psychologically demanding on a level I don't think you can imagine.

By all means give it a go, but stop when you start throwing up.

Crash dieting is also not a sustainable or permanent way to lose weight. Sustainable weight loss comes from manageable long term lifestyle changes which you then maintain for the rest of your life. Join a gym or take up exercise, try and reduce your intake of things like processed sugars and fats, reduce your overall food portion sizes and spread them out throughout the day. Sustainable weight loss happens over months or even years, not weeks, but unlike a crash diet you won't immediately pile it back on when you return to your normal lifestyle.
