Sandbox mode.
Shit loads of normal zombies, no special infected, you can make traps and other contraptions to kill the zombies.

Kind of like what I spent most of my time doing on Gmod round my mates house.

A mode where you have to work your way to the top of a tall building to get to a helicopter. Like the last part of No Mercy, but really tall, really long, and you're being chased by a massive horde, so it's like those old platformer levels where the screen was rising up without you, and you have to keep ahead.

It'd be pretty frantic, a lot of "Leave me behind!" moments if you fall and stuff.

A brilliant idea by one of my good friends to make a left 4 dead game with customisable classes, a la CoD.

The Last Ones

You are the survivors that were just on the heels of the main survivors, and you have to live with all the crap they just caused. Increased enemies, not much ammo, and only crappy weapons.

It all leads up to a tear jerking finale where you wish your team died before these guys did.

It's not quite a game mode, but I'd love it if Valve borrowed "Zombie Kill of the Week" from ZombieLand. Each week, there could be a screenshot in steam, or even a quick video. Of course, without Half Life style physics, it would be pretty tough to differentiate, but I can dream.

Armageddon mode: all the common infected are replaced by tanks and you only get melee weapons.

Zombiesurvivial: you play a group of infected and have to fight your way past hordes of survivors who all have guns.

WHYISTHISHAPPENING mode: hardest setting, only pistols, no special infected, constant car alarm.

How about a 'The Thing-esc' approach? One of the players starts off infected or as a spy/traitor (obviously who this is is unkown to the team), this player's goal is to eliminate the rest of the team before the end of the level without getting themselves killed (so simply walking up to your teammates and unloading on them with a shotty won't work).

I haven't thought about it too much so I can't really think of any specifics but I think I have an interesting starting point (also, considering how the game is built on four people working tightly together and trusting each other it would be interesting to now have everyone being paranoid and distrustful of one another).

Considering the nature of the game it would also make sense (would you honestly trust three gun wielding strangers you've never met before and who have nothing in common with you?).

We're not exactly sure. I think it's basically a very difficult mode, for instance, only headshots kill.
Apparently it has no hud so it forces players to communicate the location of weapons, medkits etc.

In realistic mode the survivors dont talk and there isnt any on screen instructions about what button to push to continue. basically you have to use your mic or your team is gonna loose.

How about one with no special infected, all the common infected walk/shuffle and only die from headshots, the only weapons are the deagle, the machete and some form of sledge hammer to move objects to create barricades, zombie panic style, but the infected can break through any obstacle given time, even walls. Basically zombie panic but more destructable and rewarding.

Infected mode. You and a butch of other special infected have been cornered by the military and you undead bastards must make your final stand. No respawns and no end to the endless hordes of evil humans. Why can't they understand us? Basically survival mode, but in reverse.

Nope. It isn't "more" difficult as such, there is no change in damage or AI Difficulties,

It removes your HUD, like Operation Flashpoint : dragon Rising. In that game the highest difficulty is just like the easiest except that all notifications, pop-ups, HUD and on-screen info vanish.

Realism is like that. No way to tell if you've been pounced by a Hunter unless you tell your team, and that's the point. With no HUD and information you have to communicate and genuinely work as a team.

Probably a game type where you learn to communicate with the zombies and see if you convice the still human side of them to let you live on you're life and hopefuly find a cure. Maybe if you do a good enough job the infected will let you end their misery....

Good mode: The game tries a form of co-op that does not involve leaving every player worthless and gimped.

Romero Mode:
Zombies are slow, no "special infected," but zombies can only be killed with headshots and deal massive bleeding damage (get hit and you slowly lose life until you use a medkit).

Realistic (or Realism, don't remember the name) is kind of a more... well... realistic gamemode, I still dont know the details but imagine the diference beetwen the regular COD4 multiplayer and the Hardcore COD4 multiplayer
realism mode removes the light around people, which means that better communication is needed. also, people can only be ressed by defillebrator.

Super Happy Fun Time Mode.

All of the zombies are kittens, puppies, panda cubs, and adorable animals. The guns are love rays. The gore is replaced with hearts and rainbows. Death is just nap time.

Maybe at least then Australians can play.
