Game Maker? Rpg maker? I regret I don't have more information for you, but I do advise you check out the forums on www.tigsource.com

I'm sure they could answer any questions you have. In addition, it's one of the best sites on the internets for gaming goodness.

Game Maker and Construct for beginners.

Microsoft XNA for intermediates.

Older development kits are around though, if you wanna be more hard-core!

Congatulations! You are about to start down a long hard road filled with rage, effort and copyright laws. Many start, few finish and at the end it's likely that the best you will get is a random comment saying "cool game". Of course you can do well and become a full blown indie game maker in which case you can experience it allover again with the added fun of enraged fans complaining about delays.

Man, that's the truth. You have to REALLY want it to be an indie developer.

Yeah, seriously I'm not just pulling this out of my ass. I've seen this happen dozens of times, even for seemingly simple systems like indie PnP RPG makers it's massive effort for little to no reward.

It really depends what you are going after when you say you want to make indie games.

Do you have any experience in programming, making sprites, 3d models, etc.
What kind of games do you want to make? 2d sidescrollers? 3d fps games?

There are lot's of different tools, kits and things like that out there, but without gauging what you're willing to do and what skills you have it's kind of hard to suggest anything for you.

Like someone said earlier game maker is a good choice if you're a beginner and are ok sticking to 2D games for the most part, as it doesn't require a huge amount of thought and effort to produce something and is a good stepping stone to more complex things.

well i really want to make 2d platformer but that have some sort of lvling system i can easilly get my head round all the cosde stuff,

i can easily make my own sprites since i have had such stuff befor in my college course.

but for most part i am worried about the capabilities of something... i dont wanna stick alot of time into it and find out i actually cant do the storyline or gameplay i wanted
