Creativity in Vidja Games

It seems to me that clever games are a dying breed these days. I hate to utterly parrot Yahtzee but it seems that everything recently is your generic space marine bullshit. Maybe I'm just not tied into the gaming community enough anymore and as such am not hearing about the true gems out there. So, I have one thing to say about my thoughts on the death of clever games: prove me wrong. Please.

I'm not really sure what constitutes a clever game?

- Technically - GTA IV, Farcry 2.

- Innovative - Mirrors Edge, Little Big Planet, Orange Box.

I think there's plenty more out there too, just need to delve into the vast list of games out there these days

Orange Box I'm aware of and fully agree with you there. It just seems that all the recent releases have a complete lack of intellectual depth. And yeah sorry, I should have realized that defining a 'clever' game is pretty difficult.

Yeah I get what you mean though. It is annoying. I haven't bought any really new games recently. Nothing to justify the cost.

Yeah all I've been doing is renting...my friend and I are desperate to find a good game to play because we just beat RE5 and need something to get the bad taste out of our mouths before we completely lose faith in the video game industry.

That's like putting a thread titled "Off-Topic stuff" in the Off-topic section.

You should change your title to be less ambiguous.

And if you want less cookie-cutter games, look at the indie gaming community.
