I was talking to friend after I got home from buying Dead Space 2 (she was with me when I bought it) and we were talking to the guys at the gamestop. They said the game wasn't for a faint of heart (which we already guessed that) and told us that even the littlest things will scare us to shit.

So we put the game in and I let it download and we were talking, leaving the game at the menu screen for a couple minutes when we hear something. "Isaac..."

We had no idea what it was and the lights were off. I thought it was my mom and so did my friend, but none of our names is Isaac. It happened again and we were extremely creeped out we had to keep the lights on the entire time.

EDIT
There was one particularly unsettling bit in Dead Space 2 that bugged me.
When you go back to the Ishimura, there's a decontamination chamber you must go through. I remember in the first game when you go through there, it locks you in a tiny room and a bunch of necromorphs jump out at you, so that's what I was expecting. Instead, you stand in the small room for about 30 seconds, holding your breath and waiting for them to come, but they never do... The room just decons and lets you pass. That was a good part for me.
Yeah, it was the same for me.

Then the second time you go through, I saw a Pack banging on the glass where I just came from. I was like 'Why would one be there? I'm not going back that way.' So I turned around and saw an Enhanced Slasher in the direction I would be heading. 'Oh. They were trying to distract me. That's...stupid.' *Loud crash from behind* 'What was th-OHGODMYFACEITSEATINGMYFAAAAAACE'
The whole Ishimura gave me the creeps. I was like, "I'm gonna get swamped." First few rooms no enemies...Hmmm. After the chamber still no enemies...'OH! I get it. They're gonna swamp me in some long dark tunnel and then swamp me the whole way off the ship. *Enter the dark tunnel with the Necromorphs that charge you* Okay...Dark and a tunnel. Theres gonna be enemies. *Pick up a crate, throw it down the tunnel* 'GRAGHR'....'Shit, there it is'. >_>
oh my god I totally agree. I was holding my breath waiting for something to come out at me and it was like 'decontamination complete' and I'm like 'fwee!'

Then when I came back I hadn't gotten any other ammo then 'OMGTHEREEVERYWHERD:'

I have [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/9.226212.7718808] already discussed [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.257801-Majoras-mask-one-of-the-best-and-creepiest-games-of-the-decade#9693835] this subject [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.247343-Majoras-Mask?page=3#9087568] extensively before. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.240120-Creepiest-Scariest-Video-Game-Character-Ever#8655918]

Mods, I realize that this may count as a short post or self advertising, but please understand that I have discussed this topic so many times with such long and thought out posts that I feel at this point it'd be better for me to link to my orginal posts on the matter instead of typing another whole half a page thesis on Majora's mask.

The creepers from this indie game called minecraft are terrifiying. Maybe you've heard of it? It's not very well known...
No. I can't say I've ever heard of that game.

Must only be the coolest of the cool cats who know about that very awesome yet inexplicably unappreciated game.
Yeah, so many gems go unappreciated.

Similarly, I dunno if you're familiar with that sarcy British guy that calls himself Yahtzee...he's made some damn scary games.

SWAT 4 could be freaky, cause it was believable, suspension of disbelief was easier when you are "only" fighting human enemies, and their weapons can splatter your whole team if you are careless.

Blade Kitten, to an minor extent, on the level after the Acland...but the end of game cut scene gave a reason for all that, rather than just character development, which was a shame.

Not well known? It has over 4,000,000 registered users and over 1,000,000 people have purchased it and it's not even out of BETA yet.
HAhaha, sorry, that's my fault. I'm English, everything I say is sarcastic. It's actually written in white bellow my post, just highlight it.
Oh you English people. That makes a lot more sense now.

The very start of Dead Space 2, when you're running from the Necromorphs, the shadow that chases you down that last corridor and you want to look behind you but you know it spells certain death. Brilliant.

Wow... there's a lot of them.

First one comes to my mind is Bioshock 1. This was probably a gaming glitch but it was scary. I was at my college and with a bunch of other students in this media room at our dorm, we were watching this one dude play.

He goes into this room and wanders around and there don't appear to be any splicers or whatever. Anyway, he turns around to get a better look and right fucking there, not moving is a couple of splicers. Just there. Right after turning around.

The guy jumped and started shooting and I swear we all jumped right with him.

Wow, only a little over a week and I'm posting this video again, easily the creepiest thing I've seen in a game.

This. I believe that was in the... Dentist office? I believe I just finished hacking something or listening to an audio tape and then I started backing up, and I just stop as if something was blocking me. I turn around and HOLYFUCKWHATTHEHELL there is a Splicer, just standing there, looking at me. Scared the SHIT out of me.

Also, I'm surprised no one mentioned this yet - but two parts near the end of Resident Evil 4. The first was the Ganado-in-the-oven scare when you first infiltrate the island. The second, more benign but this falls well under "creepy" is in the area with row of prison cells, there is a small dumpster/ hamper with a burlap sack in it that once revealed starts flopping and squirming around. Still have no idea what the hell that thing was supposed to be.

Back in the 1.09 patch of Diablo 2, I was grinding cows one night and this guy stayed behind in the game with me after everyone left, he then began to try and cyber me, something about his "big barbarian cock fucking my nice big sorc tits".

That was by far the most traumatizing moment in my video game experience.

The very end of F.E.A.R 2. Not because it's scary, but more "I cannot unsee that now"

This may sound lame, but it was in Fable 2. It was inside one of those demon doors. You're in this snowy area, and it's got jingling bells going, and there's a little lit up cottage with a fire going. It's got this whole Christmas feel, so lovely and warm. You run up to the cottage door, and just as you step inside the lights go out, the bells stop, and the inside turns into a run-down abandoned shack. I had to take a moment to get over my "wtf?!" daze before hesitantly exploring for treasure. I expected to run into some sort of undead or something, but nothing but a treasure chest upstairs. Then I got my ass out of there as fast as possible.
You shouldn't play Fable 3, that game will wreck you once you get to the "Eternal Darkness" part.

Already played it, wasn't creeped out. Wasn't thoroughly amused either. Pity. :(
