This is why I love PC gaming. My Team Fortress 2 server of choice not only allows pornographic and/or offensive sprays, it actively encourages them. Basically, the only thing that they actually care about is a certain word starting with the letter N. Long as you avoid that word, you can spew just about any other form of insanity and be totally kosher.

For me, it's all about context.

Swearing is good in context, such as sarcastic teasing or when emphasizing something you feel strongly for. Even the N word works in certain contexts, just very few.

A server that allows blatant swearing for the hell of it isn't that great in my book, it's the environment that breeds douchebags.

THAT'S the one I was thinking of. I'm not sure where all these Roman references are coming from, because the text on the comic is based 100% on Not My Business. If I was certain about the meaning of 'paraphrase' I might even say that that's what it is. Is it?

Not My Business is a different poem, just with a similar pattern and topic. It's actually based of the poem First They Came by Martin Niemöller, about Nazi Germany.

Nice, very nice. Tongue-in-cheek done correctly. Although it looks like some people didn't catch that. Oh well, that's the risk you run when your humor gets subtle. People miss it, but its all the sweeter for those who catch it.

And I agree, this whole issue is pretty funny. Sure you can argue that people could use the swastika as a religous symbol, but come on. We all know that the people who put swasitkas and "666" and weed symbols in their names are doing it to be "edgy" or "cool" or whatever. Yeah, Xbox is being remade to be a more "family-friendly" system, but it isn't that bad to ban people using a symbol that essentially says they're fine with the systematic murder of over 6 million people on the basis of ethnicity.

So your favourite server is a server full of idiots who swear for the sake of it, trolls, and kids who think swearing and porn sprays are cool?
That is just the worst type of server. There's a reason most servers have rules and regulations. It's to keep order and prevent trolls and pricks.
There's a reason offensive sprays are called OFFENSIVE, no one wants to see them!

I personally have no problem with swastika avatars.

Me neither but then they should've made a few official "Axis" emblems for said teams. So no misunderstandings or abuse couldve accurred. Instead of letting douchebags have the complete freedom to be douchebags.

Sounds similar to the Poem 'Not my Business'. I wouldn't care if they banned people using penis, nazi-style swastikas and beastality emblems but I would be pissed if they banned people using the religious-style swastika.

The problem is with the swastika, is that the first thing that comes to most people's minds when they see the "crooked cross" is a certain political party.

Something the Microsoft spokesman said when this censorship was announced was something like " There is no easy way to explain the meaning of your emblem." IE, while you may have the swastika as a religious symbol (Buddhism?) or any other symbol (Finnish Airforce icon, I think), there is no way to explain to everyone who sees it why you have it. For all they know, you have it to show your allegiance to the National Socialist Party.

I still haven't found anyone who would be personally offended by just seeing swastikas. It's true though that microsoft has all rights to remove them if they so choose, but it just seems rather overprotective. Sure they might as well just bann for everything that somebody might get offended for (like beastiality and goatse) and most likely well see that happening.

And you are right about the Finnish airforce logo. It does also have a swastika in it.

While I hit Yes to "I accept the terms" when I joined XBL, I can't help but scoff at the lack of enforcement on Microsofts part.

I'm forced to interact with users in-game. I'm not forced to look at their avatar.

If anything a swastika is a shining beacon in a dark smelly void. A shining beacon that says "PUT ME ON YOUR IGNORE LIST."

I know to avoid people on the street with tin foil hats, but I can't recognize crazy people incognito.
