Maybe he grew immune to its effects over time. Kinda like in the Princess Bride how the Hero grew a resistance to the poison that he put in the cup so it wont backfire no matter what.

This is why the star rating system is BS. Deus ex is a great game, but one issue can drag it down to four start. Pick a game that is not as good overall with deus ex and fewer flaws and it gets 5 stars, despite being the weaker game. Seriously. You cannot give an overview of something as complex as a game with a system as weak as this.

I personally would have given it three. The boss battles are just the most glaring flaw, there are plenty more.
