I tried reading 1984 again, to see why I loved it so much.

And now i remember.

Because it fucking scared me to death. Nights have gone by sleeplessly, because I feared an other big Brother might take over.

God, it has made me shit my pants more than most horror stories.
It really is a horror story, regardless of what else it is.

Few people who try and capture the elements of an Orwellian future successfully do so.

poor Orwell, just another 720 and he'll unlock the special trick "come-back-from-death-and-murder-Shaun-White-and-the-developers-of-his-games"

still, pretty clever comic
How do I learn this trick?

So where is the snow again? I thought Shaun White was a snowboarder. I mean I know he can dabble in skateboarding, I get that. I know he is more than a 1 dimentional snowboarder and probably enjoys many things. But didn't he win the gold medal in snowboarding?

I mean you don't see Kurt Angle MMA or Misty May Tennis.

write an awesome book with a story good enough to be remembered into pop culture

then wait until it gets raped by game developers who don't know how to do it properly

oh, but you must die in the process =P

Shouldn't the tombstone read "Eric Arthur Blair?"

Sorry, that was the pedant in me.

Does he color it with insipid marketing?

This is more like how you can't throw the branded Pepsi machines in Bionic Commando. i.e. crappy.

Rats. My writing is the modern equivalent of dime novels.

Haha, nice comic, I wondered if you were taking the piss of the game but apparently it's actually like that ><

Oh and you get bonus points for including The xx. I admit that one of the main reasons I like this comic is because of the song references at the end of each one :)

So let me get this straight: it takes the lame overall premise of Aerosmith's Revolution X, but instead of fighting oppression by flinging bullets and CDs, you hock Baconators with the Flying Tomato?

There's this small, aching twinge somewhere deep within my soul.

I don't fully get it. Because George Orwell was against autocracy and democratic socialism, he is turning in his grave?
1984 was his dissent against government controlling people's lives.

But then if you're going out to dissent against that to promote corporatism... Yeah... That's just hypocrisy.

Very good idea to place the "Yes. We know." comment on that last panel to cut off a flood of smug posts about the tombstone.

George Orwell's 1984. One of the most thought-provoking books ever written, it concerns a totalitarian state in 1984 (which was, when it was written, in the future) in which every action is watched by a mysterious and possibly non-existent entity named Big Brother. Newspeak (doubleplusungood) etc were all methods of bringing the populace to heal. I wont say more cos it will ruin it should u read the book (whoch u should trust me). It was written in attack of dictatorships and the principles of totalitarianism (Orwell was a highly active Democratic Socialist) and its the strip is basically saying that this game alludes to 1984 in ways which would make poor deceased Mr.Orwell spin in his grave.

So because Tony Hawk games are selling so well, they thought slapping another persons name on it would make it better?

"assbox"

hehe

OT: That has always bugged me. If your against "establishment" and whatnot, why do you still buy certain boards/clothes/music? Aren't they still part of some corp or something that your trying to take down?

*sigh* silly children. Fighting the machine by buying things from different parts of the machine.
The only parts of the machine that are evil are the parts that don't pay me to sell there stuff. Product placement at its finest.

It references a famous book by George Orwell called 1984. I got it but I didnt find it funny. The comic is just a really subtle, ironic and hypocritical reference to how George Orwell made the goverment a villian and in the comic your replacing a totilitarian goverment society with in game advertising and capitalism.

Which is causing George Orwell to kickflip in his grave.
