Journalism used to have honor. or at least a glimmer of it. People who spray oil on pits of shit will always catch peoples attention when a match is dropped. It really just offends me that people like her, along with the entire writing and editorial staff of fox news, and a clusterfuck and a half of other less-known media outlets make sooo much money off of besmirching otherwise decent people. Meanwhile, Laura Ling has become forgotten entirely, Cronkite has become a fictional buzzword, and morality has become a hurdle for any agency with a wallet to reprimand.

does anybody see a problem with this?

I'm trying not to be a submissive jerk, truly, but what compelled us to move from unbiased coverage ("news") to hurtful opinions.

and I don't mean forums and outlets like game reviews, I mean tabloids, bereznek, for (insert deity here)'s sake, Diana should have been the last fuck-up that journalism did.

Please lend me your ear while I harshly play violin on a sinking ship.

Mr. Finkel being the world champion of Magic the Gathering and all must be a master tactition, how do we know he didn't mastermind and orchestrate the whole thing to get women?
"And thus he pulled off the most convoluted and flawless combo ever attempted."

Gotta love how many posts here are dedicated to proper goat-slitting techniques.

But when I saw the title... am I the only one who thought of a completely different Bastard who also happens to be a journalist?
Spider Jerusalem...Truly ahead of his time. Which is odd, since we're WAY behind him.

Also, I couldn't help but think of this little ditty [Crude Language warning]

I have mixed opinions about the whole thing. In Gawker's defense I will say that they are sort of presenting both sides of the story by giving time to competing viewpoints. Because we as nerds don't like what happened to the reigning king of "Magic", we're going on about whoring for page views. On the other hand on a lot of other issues we frequently go off about sites that don't present both sides of a story so to speak.

Whether this should have been on their site to begin with is of course an entirely differant story, but in a way Gawker itself seems to have maintained a degree of neutrality in letting both "sides" have a voice.

To me, "reasonably hot girl dumps nerd" isn't really news, even when the nerd is a huge name in the fandom community. Girls getting online and writing/blogging about their dates and the "nerds" they dump isn't anything new either, and a lot of people lap that stuff up... but again because of the fact that this guy is pretty much a hero to nerds everywhere to begin with, this has snowballed beyond all belief.

It blows chips, I feel sorry for Mr. Finkel, but I don't think this quite deserves all the attention this is getting. Guys have been shot down for things equally stupid throughout history. Especially by the Seinfeldian type women with arbitrary standards of what's appropriate and "normal". I'm guessing this girl probably would have dumped the owner of a major comic company like "Marvel" as a comic geek under the same grounds.

The fact that it is a major publication and not just some girls blog makes a difference. I mean its Gizmodo, a site for tech geeks. I was surprised they were being so mean spirited to nerds, as there is definitely a large cross section between those who like tech and those who like games.

You don't murder goats. You either use them for sacrifice or put them down.

The kickstarter one is really odd.
The sellers:
1. Admit to being drug dealers (they claim to be the dealers who sold the mayor the crack)
2. Want the money to move their drug operation to another city
3. Fear retaliation via being FRAMED for crimes... After having admitted to being drug dealers.
