Mafia?

Well, ummm... errr... hmmm...
Someone else here likes the original Mafia game? I'm not alone here? Yay! :D

As for me, I already criticized Fallout 3 in a different thread similar to this, but i'll say again what I said there. I don't like how there are many outcomes to quests and encounters that are possible, I fundamentally keep playing the same kind of game everytime. The game world never -really- changes that much, no matter if I am good or evil. At root, the NPC's in the game treat me the same regardless of whether or not I am a saint or a mass murderer.

God of War was too short.
God of War II was too short.
God of War III was too short.
Portal ended.
CoD4 online gets boring after 5 hours of continous gaming.

I can't come up with more.

Skies of Arcadia:

If you miss a moonfish, you're fucked. Although you can technically go back and get it, there is no way in hell you'll find it.

My current gripe is with Alpha Protocol.

Don't get me wrong; I find the story to be really fun to play through, but the DRM...

Oh, dear god. The DRM. I'm not sure if anyone else encountered this problem, but after trying to start the game up a second time, the game glitched up and refused to play unless I activate my license key for the game. Thing is, I *ALREADY* did, and apparently the program is too buggy to understand that.

Obsidian Entertainment announced that the DRM would be removed in 18 to 24 months, but until then, AP is staying on my computer desk, uninstalled, unloved, unmourned.

It's a great shame, because I loved playing the game.

Doom 3

It felt like a crappy survival horror game ... not to mention if you were smart enough with the shotgun thats the only gun you need! That and introducing each monster in a little cut scene did not help at all with the scare factor. After 15 minutes of playing the game ... I could predict when and where monsters were going to pop up ... hold on ... *walks around the corner there is a slight hissing sound that is interupted by the sound of a shotgun blast* Knew he was there and he hadn't even spawned ...

on the positive side back when it was released the monsters looked cooler than ever, especially the Hell Knight, he still looks badass to this day. The mods in the community are quite fun I love the Doom 3 Classic, and the game itself isn't bad, its just that Doom and Doom II feel like much better games.

Tales of Symphonia, and DotNW

Now I love this game but I can be uber critical of it. First off the voice acting sucks ... thats just how I feel about it, some things feel like they might need more emotion put into them ... others feel like no emotion was put into them at all! While the gameplay mechanics are pretty solid and fun in my opinion, it can be easy to abuse the system. The worst one I can think of is the whole Colette poison hammer thing, I can go fight the supposive hardest boss of the entire game with just her alive in my party, with her only knowing Pow Hammer, use that attack to poison the boss and just dodge his attacks. He will soon drop down to 1hp and I can kill him at her starting level almost! The storyline is kinda overdone too and very predictable to the point I had guessed a lot of stuff before it even happened in the game.
I won't even go into Dawn of the New World cause that game just sucks plain and simple.

Now I think its combat system is pretty good ... infact its sorta what drew me into JRPGs again. I liked that it sorta reminded me of a Super Smash Bros like system sorta ... or atleast the controls felt like it. You don't have to do things in a certain order, first time I played through it instead of going to Palmacosta first I went to Luin and Asgard. Was slightly harder to fight Kvar at a low level but not impossible. Made Palmacosta and fighting Magnus fun yet pretty easy. Was relaxing to run them in quite easy!

Mass Effect 2: compared to the 1st there's way less customization, party members don't chat any more, the shotgun is next to useless in harder difficulties, and the explanation for the new ammo system is ridiculous. Also, killing mercs gets kind of samey after a while, and the mineral gathering is soul-eroding.

Still, the combat is much more satisfying, and there's much less travel time. The characters, dialogue, and background are also top notch, it looks and plays great, and it's really worth playing through multiple times in multiple ways.

Shadow of the Colossus.

It all just follows the same repetitive pattern.

Awaken at temple.
Use light beam to track Colossus location.
Ride horse and/or use platforming challenge to reach Colossus area.
Find Colossus.
Piss yourself at how fucking huge it is.
Use the environment to your advantage.
Hold R1 to hold on to Colossus.
Colossus won't stop fucking shaking.
Find ominous glowing weak point.
Stab it a billion times.
Kill Colossus.
Awaken at temple.
Repeat.

And those damn Colossuses no matter how hard you try to climb them...won't...stop....fucking....SHAKING!!

Still my favorite game. Ever.

Let's see, my overall number 1 game? Legend of Mana. Hmmmm... I think I can do some justice while still making the top of my list.

For one, while the background art is fantastic being entirely crafted from watercolor it would have been a lot better if it was somewhat 3 dimensional. If it remained 2D, then I would have to say that there needed to be more backgrounds that were less repetitive and got you lost like in the Jungle and the Junkyard. They're all well crafted, but seeing the same picture over and over again seems really boring.
The animation of the characters seems a bit lazy at times, sometimes I can't even tell what particular emotion they're trying to get across.
The concept art for the boy character is REALLY girly. When I first played it I thought it was another girl.

Other than that the musical score is incredible, borderline epic. It really opens up the world and expands it to more than what appears to be a kiddy game. The variety of environments were enchanting to me and backgrounds are fantastic, like I mentioned before. The characters are a bit strange, but very charming and each of them has their own quirks even the small ones. The number of things you can do such as crafting and farming is kept simple enough that its complexity doesn't get in the way. Other than that, the last thing that makes it remain at the top of my list is that it's a reflection of my own nostalgia and traveling to different places with my family as a kid.

Mass Effect 2: I know I'm going to be one of one people saying this, but where'd my Mako go? The planet scanning would make me cringe every time I couldn't afford an upgrade, to the point where I would leave all but the critical ones undone. Also, I even enjoyed the elevators because of the party banter in the first one, and now the characters hardly interact at all. Other than that though, the writing is excellent, the combat improved, and the characters full of depth. I've been able to play it five times without it losing it's fun.

Not my favorite, but Super Smash Bros Brawl is complete tripe on the Online mode. It takes on average four seconds for my character to respond to my commands, so I often have to second guess my opponents, and I do it wrong a lot.

Also, in Mario Kart Wii, the Blue Shells likelihood of appearing seem to run on Discworld logic, in that if it's unlikely to happen then it will.

Bad Company 2 still has that dogtag system. Yeah, let's put more epeen-stroking systems in this game. Better yet, let's make the knife even dodgier. Why did I just get stabbed after Commando-lunging the guy that I was aiming at? I wasn't even there anymore.

Furthermore, let's just put "kit customizations" in this game. Yeah, these definitely aren't perks. They're nothing like perks. Magnum ammo is nothing like Stopping Power. (Seriously, it takes 22 levels to get Magnum ammo. Wtf? Seriously? What, were the higher-ranked players having trouble killing people or something? Not to mention that this isn't Call of Duty, and level 22 takes a long time to get.)

When you go through KOTOR a second time Taris is SOOOO BORING.
Yes, it REALLY is.
Anyone care to explain this to me? I went through Taris three or four times and I never had a real problem with going through it again...

Anyway, for KotOR, Kashyyyk had a severe lack of side quests when compared to all of the other planets. Also, there's not a Selkath party member. Why is there not a Selkath party member?

And Canderous would never let me finish talking to him. Jerk.

Finally, KotOR and my computer do not get along. At all.
