Hi, i was wondering if i could get a little help from some people on a serious matter. My Dad has been diagnosed with Crohn's disease. In a sentence, its a thinning of the lining of the stomach. The symptoms are varied and can be quite severe.

i was just wondering if anyone else has known anyone with this. A friend tells me a friend of hers got it when he was 25 can continues to live his life. But my dad has already told me he has written his will. He wont take any advice from me and seems to be reluctant to go back to the doctors. He cant hold down any food or water. Surely theres something to be done. I want to help him but he just wont accept it and i dont know what to do.

My brother has UC, abut for the longest time we thought it was Crohns.

Don't listen to your dad. Get him help, even if he doesn't want it.

Call his doctor and make an appointment for you, or with other members of your family, to meet with his doctor. I'm sure the doctor wants to help your father and will have information and resources to help you help your father. The doctor will likely have lists of support groups to help your family. There's patient confidentiality to consider, but that doesn't mean you can't be given any help or support.

Good luck with this. *hugs*

I was diagnosed with Crohn's over the summer, except mine is down in the colon. He should start going on some pills to help with the pain. He needs to go back to a doctor.

Just FYI, I was told that it shouldn't decrease life expectancy, nor should it kill you like a cancer would, so he isn't in any immediate danger providing he goes back to the doctor.

Gastroenterologist would be the prime choice, though a general practitioner would also be able to help. For something like this, the gastro specialist would be the one to see. Crohn's is manageable with medication. I had a friend that was in about the same state as your dad, he was in pretty poor shape and couldn't eat anything without getting violently ill. This went on for about 3 months. Once he saw a doctor and got on medication he was able to eat normally, it seems like it only took a week or two for him to start feeling MUCH better.
