Cross-platform console war, literally!

Whilst perusing a few forums earlier and observing the usual passionate, thoughtful and well articulated debate(ha!) between the fanboys rallying behind their respective messianic gaming brands, I, uh, hmm forgotten where I was going with this... Curse my penchant for flowery language, I'm sure you can imagine it gets all the girls.
Oh yes, what do you reckon of this idea: if cross-platform gaming between the PS3 and the Xbox360 ever came to fruition (not too sure about the feasibility of this, think I remember reading something about Live being a closed network amongst other technical issues, thereby rendering this thread only slightly pointless) how great would it be to have a team deathmatch-like mode where the team you represent is based on the console you play on, PS3 players Vs Xbox players!
I think that this might actually be quite fun. Yes. Seriously. And I'd also like to think that this would bring about some sort of hearty camaraderie amongst the respective teams but the reality would probably just turn out to be yet another fanboy clusterfuck of epic proporions.
Still, a man can dream.

Oh christ no. One of the reasons I bought a PS3 was to AVOID the Halotards!

Honestly, I think the players would be more mindlessly rude to each other than they already are, which is saying something. Although, I wonder about the maturity of the PS3 Network players, because while I've seen the Ox-Box's assembled mass of loud and foul, I've never seen what "treasures" PSN has for me...

It'd be an interesting exercise, and one I'd love to take part in, but ultimately highly unlikely. If it makes you feel any better, there's always PC gaming?

It'd be an interesting and probably short-lived experiment indeed. PSN does indeed come equipped with it's own set of fully-functioning smacktards I can assure you, I've never sampled Live so I can't really tell you how they match up though... Lol yeah PC really does seem the most chilled route if it's online gaming you're after

I'm sorry, which Internet do you game on? Every PC online experience, from MMORPGs to Total Annihilation, has had its fair share of arseholes. When it comes to TA style games, I'd say they're on X-Box Live levels.

Comparatively speaking that is, my admittedly limited PC online experience has been on average slightly more civil... Obviously when you do get a grouping of like-minded people it's just a matter of time till one or more of them turn out to be a dick. T'is human nature
