Cross-platform multiplayer

I do know that Shadowrun though short-lived allowed players of both Xbox 360 and Windows platforms to play online together. Other than the obvious rivalries between the console companies why haven't we had a successful cross-platform multiplayer game.

Whilst I would want cross-platform multi (More people able to play means overall more people playing...) I think that Microsoft and Sony would be too grumpy to put their differences aside for great multiplayer...

To be honest, I think Microsoft would be more opposed to this than Sony.

Steam kinda has cross platform going with PC & Mac.

And then there is always the argument of keyboard/mouse vs. controllers in FPS's.

I am kinda surprised a few of Microsofts sponsored games for PC don't have cross platform with Xbox.

And Sony did have a cross-platform title: FFXI was played on PC/XboX/PS2
