Recently I was watching a video on youtube about an episode on the Tyra Banks show where they were discussing something along the lines of "My man plays video games, help me!" It was full of stereotyping (All gamers are male,All gamers are 13 years old, etc.) and Tyra Banks kept on pretending she knew what she was talking about. At one point Morgan Webb showed up and started talking her mouth off about the different types of men that play video games. While she was talking about fantasy games she said, and I quoute "I know men who have cried at Final Fantasy 7." This was followed by a bout of laughter from the audience. I was watching this and I thought "Whats wrong with crying at a video game?" I,myself have never done it but people cry while watching movies and TV shows and while reading books as well. Video Games have emotional moments and immersive storylines and likeable characters just like any other form of media. So I have two questions.
1. Have you ever cried over a video game?
2. Do you think it is okay to cry over a video game?

EDIT
I actually forgot to mention, there was a man there at the time. Some ***** had dragged her boyfriend on cos he played video games. All these women did was patronise him until I wanted to reach through the screen and beat tyra to death with her own ego! I so wished that man would have just walked off the set.

I almost cried at Shadow of the Colossus, and no, I don't think it's wrong. If people cry at movies, and over books, then it's perfectly FINE to cry over a game.

1) almost, to gears 2
2) yeah, video games are made like playable movies. you have a script and voice actors in a game so in perspective its like a cartoonish movie.

1) Yes, on a couple of occasions. Most notably E-102's ending in Sonic Adventure. Probably one of the saddest endings around for an E rated game. Also, when Lucien shot my dog.

2) I like pie.

1) Mass Effect. Well not crying exactly, but around the time Sovereign got killed, I got goosebumps all over my body and felt my eyes get a little sore, kind of like when Sauron's Tower got destroyed. Not because it was sad, per se, but because of its grandiosity and finality of it all.

2) Well, I, myself am a tough nut to crack, but no. There's nothing wrong with crying over a sad scene or the terribleness of the game.

Whenever I see humans kicking the arse off overpowered aliens, I get goosebumps.

Never cried over a game, but I have almost thrown controllers at TVs several times in anger. Does that count?

1) Twice and only for a minute, When I finished "N" completely, every episode and collumn. Not because it was sad, but because I worked so hard and then finally finished it. Then again when Lucien killed my dog. I teared up then started swearing at my TV then went to kill the bastard when... oh wait YOU dont kill him, the box does...I felt jipped...

2) Of course.

I cried at the ending of MGS4, I won't say why for fear of spoilers.

Yeah it's fine.

1) Yes, at the end of Final Fantasy 10.
2) Yes, people cry when going to the movies and reading books, they, like video games, are art forms. Art forms are supposed to make you feel things, if they don't they are not very good. If the game intends to make you cry, and you don't, then it screwed up along those lines.

Also why the hell is Tyra Banks talking about an issue that she knows nothing about? I doubt she knows the difference but a SNES and a Wii. Morgan Webb is the actual professional on the matter, and when she brings up a serious statement, everyone laughs at her. In fact the only reason I did not cry when Aeris died in FF 7, was because I already knew about it beforehand. I am a man, does it make me gay or stupid to cry about things that touch my soul and evoke my emotions? The only thing that needs to come out of Tyra's mouth is something about fashion, which she knows about. And can I bring up an explainable question, why does Tyra Banks even have her own talkshow? I would rather watch every episode of "Leave it to Beaver" or another old era show, then waste five seconds of my life watching crap pour out of her mouth. At least with "Leave it to Beaver" you might actually learn something. Ok that's it for my rant. I need to lie down or else I might have a heart attack from my high blood pressure.

The end of Metroid Fusion and a few parts of MGS4 really got to me.
2. Yes it is completely alright. Movies can make us cry. Games are like movies. Of course it's alright.

I know what you mean about ME. I had gotten so attached to my Character, I had actually begun to think of Shepard as me on a subconscious level (exaggerating, but not by much). Then, you think he dies...
