I really want to try this game, but I heard it was horribly optimized for ATI cards.

Specs:

i7 720
ATI 5870
6gb RAM

Anyone care to share their experiences with running it?

I have an HD4850 and if I remember correctly, Cryostasis pretty much choked my computer on high settings but ran well on medium. So I think you should be fine playing it on better settings.

I wouldn't really know about the ATI thing, since I have and have always had Nvidia

but even with my 1gb Nvidia 9500GT I had to run it at 800x600 with all low

then again, I have 2 gb ram and a humble Intel Dual Core

still, even though it didn't look as crisp as I would have liked, the atmosphere was still incredibly good and really immersive

It butchered my i7 2600k, 8gig, HD5870 rig. I got like 25 fps. Turned it off soon after.

It somehow runs on my new computer. My old one, which could play Crysis on high smoothly, had tons of problems with it and it's terrible, terrible engine.

Anyways, the game actually isn't that good. I called every "scare" that was going to happen before it happens. EG: "Watch, a guy will jump out of the ice here" and of course, it happens.

Would not recommend, sorry :(

It ran pretty well on my crossfire 5850s, generally 50+ FPS at max settings and 1080p. But I also use a GT240 for PhysX, although I don't think it really helps performance it just adds eye candy - since ATI can't run PhysX anyway - although if you try forcing PhysX on the CPU then it'll run like shit.

But yeah, given the small environments it really was surprising how demanding it is. You'll have to turn down settings a bit but it's a really good game IMO.

EDIT: Didn't think it was meant to be scary... it's not. It's fun and different and at the end it's really fucked up. Also it apparently has a hidden morality system so there's a few different possible endings.
