Okay, being as the ea servers both suck and a warren of PC gamer fanatasism ("OMG all you console plebs have ruined the franchise 90% of our playerbases machines couldent run")I thought I would pitch in here and see what you folks thought.

As for me? Im playing it via a 360, and I like it. It's a fair balance between call of duty and halo as far as the mechanics of the multiplayer go, which I like. The Graphics are the best Iv'e seen my console manage, and the sound/music score are brilliant.

Main issues are the buggy party system, weapon ballance and various graphical/gameplay bugs im hoping won't make it too release.

What about you folks?

DISCLAIMER: Yes, the pc version is better, and yes, we all know that the game has been ballanced more toward console viability. In the words of another thread on this here forum, deal with it.

I call it Call of Duty: Maximum Edition.

Also people are retarded and forget to use nanovision.
Yeah I noticed that too. They forget to collect tags too.

So my first impression isn't that good :/
What version are you on? I just wish they had called this a Beta and released the game next month.

Let me walk you through how I experienced it on the PC.

So it started when I downloaded the demo, which took 2 days. Start it up, watched a "training video". Ok, whatever, I guess it could be helpful to someone who's just starting to play on the PC for the first time ever.

Then it tells me to "press 'start' to begin". It actually means "Enter". Which I found out after repeatedly mashing the button between the Ctrl and Alt key and getting nowhere. Well, thats a promising start(this sentence is sarcasm).

I then am told to sign into my Gamespy account. Alri- wait, Gamespy account? Who the fuck still uses Gamespy as their online service? I thought we stopped using it because it sucked giant donkey-balls. There is no reason in this day and age to still use this poor excuse for an online service. Also, I can't remember my password. Oh wait, I wrote it down somewhere. After some searching, I found it, and proceeded to enter my username and password. Apparently I entered the wrong one. Ok, I guess I may have wrote down the wrong one for some stupid reason. Its cool, we all make mistakes.

So I click on "forgot password". It then brings me to the Crysis 2 website, with nowhere to retrieve my Gamespy password from. How is this supposed to help Crytek? Normally when I click "forgot password" in other games, it brings up a place for me to type my email, then you can email it to me. Apparently thats too simple for you, because you want me to apparently go to the Crysis 2 sight, which has no links to Gamespy anywhere, to get my Gamespy password. What the fuck?!

Alright, fuck this then. I'll try the Steam version. Normally I'd like to limit what I have on Steam, but fuck at least with Steam I won't have to deal with Gamespy.

So 2 days later the Steam version is downloaded. I start it up, skip the damn video that got old the first time, and am told to enter my Gamespy name and password.

Ok, Crytek, seriously, WHAT THE FUCK?! Why the fuck are you making me use Gamespy when I have the Steam version?! What train of logic did you take to think this would be a good idea?! Steam has its own shit, let it use it if your going to put the game on Steam. Its one reason to use Steam, convenience, and yet you insist on using fucking horrible-ass Gamespy to play online. Holy shit this is just stupid. God dammit.

So after much time and research, and re-logging into a long-dead yahoo email account, I managed to fish through the thousands of spam emails and found my long-lost gamespy password. I enter it in, and it works.

Alright, time to see what this game has. I check the options to set my graphics, since Crysis does have a reputation of being quite the graphics whore. I expect there to be many many options with which to customize my experience so I can get some quality but have the game actually run.

So I go into graphics, and... there's nothing. Just set the resolution, brightness, and "graphics settings" which consist of 3, count 'em 3, options. "Gamer", "Advanced", and "Hardcore", these are the graphics options I have at my disposal. The only fucking options I have. Which is high? Which is low? Which is medium? It doesn't say. At all, anywhere. Really Crytek? Really? I don't even have words for this.

Alright god dammit, lets just fucking learn as we go. I'll start with "gamer" and switch up the graphics in-between matches and use the performance difference to judge which is which.

-Side Note: There is a friends list function. If you think I mean Crysis 2 on Steam uses Steam's integrated friends list, you'd be wrong. It uses Gamespy's friend list. So you have to re-add all your friends by using their Gamespy name. Yes I am aware of how stupid this is. Apparently Crytek isn't.

Ok, so lets join a match. Oh, dedicated servers, nice. This I like. Although it seems the cap is only 12 people, which is odd considering Crysis 1 had up to 32 people who could play at once. Whatever though, Crysis 1's multiplayer sucked. So I pick a modes US East Coast server with 8 people and get into a match. Performance wise, its pretty smooth. Very nice, although further testing is needed to see how it stacks up.

Gameplay-wise, its Call of Duty. Really Crytek? Instead of trying something interesting with the nano-suit your just going to make another damn Call of Duty clone? You know, the nanosuit doesn't seem so "advanced" when one god damn punch to the stomach can kill you. Also, feature wise, the nanosuit is reduced to a sad shell of its former self. Instead of selecting each mode separately through a radial menu, like in Crysis 1, the modes are now just woven into the gameplay. Which sounds good, until you play it, and see it doesn't really add anything new other then the ability to cloak at will, jump high, and turn into a canonball mid-air and crush anyone under you(which, admittedly, is pretty sweet). Super-speed is the worse affected though. Going from practically speed-hacking in the first game to a simple "sprint" which is just as fast as any sprint in any other game, and is just as fast as standard, non-speed enhanced sprint in Crysis 1. But you can see your feet. Which is totally sweet, more games should do that(I'm being completely serious here).

Crysis 2 even has killstreaks. Radar, Airstrike, and Chopper. Wow Crytek, your not even trying to be different, are you?

Well as I was playing, I realized something peculiar, it was like some force was pulling on my reticle. Well I check the options, and sure enough, there is auto-aim in this thing. Auto-aim, in a PC game. Really Crytek? Really? Wow, I don't even know what to say.

Well after disabling it and finding my aim to improve, I manage to complete the game and went 15-7. A pretty nice score if I do say so myself. I even rank up twice. So I set the graphics to "advanced" and the match starts. 2 minutes later, it says I disconnected. Alright, fair enough, my internet isn't the greatest. I'll just join another game.

37 fucking times I tried to join matches. On 37 different fucking servers. Each one it disconnected me from the lobby. Normally I would blame this on my internet, but when I'm the only one on, and nothing is downloading, I think the issue is with the shitty demo and not my connection. At this point, I feel as though Crytek is now just trolling me. So I quit, and uninstall.

So in conclusion, fuck this demo. It sucks, its just a Call of Duty clone, and it has very, very little originality. Which is baffling considering the multiplayer is made by Crytek UK. For those who don't know, Crytek UK was Free Radical, and they made the best games ever, Timesplitters. You'd think that some of their interesting stuff would get into the game. Like, oh I don't know, challenges that utilize the suits abilities. Like a Nanosuit race, platforming challenges, platforming races, a contest with the strength feature to see how far you can throw enemies, obstacle courses... you know, things that are interesting. But no, apparently thats to interesting for Crytek/EA, who just seem to want another Call of Duty game.

So, in closing, fuck you EA. And fuck you Crytek.

Yeah, iv'e been hearing alot of bad things about the pc version as of late, and forcing gamespy use is frankly baffling.

Still, I actually like the multilayer, and calling it a cod clone is a little far. The core mechanics seem similar but the feel of it is very different.

It's fun for a little bit. I maxed out my character in about an hour so I had little reason to keep playing. Sure, it looks nice but it's let down by the mechanics. The melee is completely broken, some of the weapons are ridiculously OP and it just feels like CoD 4.

Not that that's not an entirely bad thing, it's just all I can think after playing for a while is "Why should I keep playing this when I can playing the much superior CoD 4?"

Last point, why do we have to pick up dog tags to get killstreak bonuses? The game discourages sniping that way!

I would tend to disagree about the graphics, they're good and all but to me they didn't compare to Dead Space 2 which had higher resolutions, more dynamic lighting and a far more solid frame-rate.

The music is indeed lovely though, very epic.

I think that's actually a deliberate (If flawed) attempt to prevent the camping and lack of team play that caused me to stop playing cod, though apparently there's a per....sorry I mean armor module that gives you auto pick-up. It does seem to mean that teams actually advance rather than trade fire for 30 mins.

My basic opinion is that crysis 2 will be superior to cod IF the campaign is decent and they polish the m-player, otherwise ill go back to reach.

I'm talking from a m-player fps here, though im yet to see deadspace 2 m-player personally. All seems a but dark from what iv'e seen.

Didn't feel any different to me. To me it felt just like Call of Duty. Then again my experience was notably soured, so maybe that had an effect. I don't know.

Well. After navigating the console-y menu system and finding a game, turning off autoaim, I find that I'm confronted with an average shooter.

You can go invisible, helpful at times... still not great, nanovision fixes that.
Basically whenever you think you're going to run into someone go into armour mode and aim.
That's it.
Sniping mechanics are boring and you can't counter sniper with rifles or anything effectively.

What I hate the most is the design. You can't distinguish between friend and foe quickly, it takes a precious moment to realise you're shooting a friend or an enemy. It's horrible design. Also there is no class distinction either so you can't know until they fire who you are up against.

So yeah, I found it average, and average isn't really worth my time.

I'm gonna try out the Steam demo, but going trough the Steam forums and the Escapist, it all makes me think I'm just wasting my time...

It seems it's not as good on a PC as consoles, at least that's what a lot of people are saying. A bad port.

Yeap, same here, minus Gamespy problems and I didn't have to use Steam.

Just to add.

Never thought of Crysis as anything more than a fancy benchmark with a play option, that's what the first game was. Crysis 2 fails even at that. Demo has no support for DX10 or DX11, first game on custom settings looks better than this demo on Hardcore. Only thing I noticed is the extreme to the hardcore amounts of postprocessing, glow/bloom, blur, DOF, and all kinds of gamma correction filters, those are cool, but only when used with care.

So to everyone who is saying that PC version is better, it is not, maybe it will a few months later when they release the "patch" which hopefully for them will "restore" DX11 and proper graphics options menu.

I thought the demo was otherwise fun, except:
-The Air Stomp ability is goddamn useless
-The vision kinda removes the possibility of stealth kill
-It's all about luck when you are executing stealth kill: Either it's successful or you'll just smack the enemy with your gun
-I still haven't figured out how to use Hologram xD

Actually, the demo is kinda fun, but now that I think about it I don't want to pay 50 euros for it.

Someone needed to post this.

Anyways, after disabling auto-aim and turning down settings as low as they could go (800x600 windowed) I proceeded to get into a match that was team stacked. As far as I could tell with my 5fps it was ripping off CoD, with the only thing differentiating (holy shit that's a word and I spelled it right?) it from CoD4 is the nanosuit, which I guess if the game ran better for me I might have enjoyed.
The auto aim only works with gamepad.. I also thought it affected mouses so I used 5600dpi and put as high sensitivity as possible and it didnt not move.

I found it enjoyable enough (airstomping people holding the crash site is fun), personally multiplayer for me is an afterthought
Single player holds the most interest for me

OT: I've been enjoying it a lot - if you think its like Call of Duty, dare I say you're not playing it right.

Musical score seems really great (at least the stuff that's in the menus), it runs really well and looks great (although I get this strange lag whenever I look in a certain direction on Skyline) and seems fairly well balanced, although the pistols feel a little overpowered - and we don't get access to all the weapons, obviously, so that's a little hard to judge.
