Crysis 2 Goes Multi-Platform

Crytek's [http://www.ea.com] hit 2007 nanosuited shooter, will be a multi-platform release.

Unlike high levels of piracy [http://games.ea.com/crysis/] for the company's decision to stop developing exclusively for the PC, saying that games released on consoles "sell factors of 4-5 more."

Announcing the game, Yerli said, "The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio. This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it's the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryEngine 3. We are excited to have the support of EA Partners again as we work together to make the launch of Crysis 2 a huge event."

"Nothing speaks more to the success of the EA Partners program than when a studio the caliber of Crytek continues to work with us," added EA Partners General Manager David DeMartini. "Crytek is already one of the elite PC development studios in the world and we are excited to have the opportunity to partner with them in bringing their award-winning technology and gameplay to more platforms and a wider audience with Crysis 2."

It's interesting to note that Yerli also claimed last year that it would be impossible to bring the technologically advanced Crysis to consoles without major modifications. "Crysis would have to be largely changed to bring it to Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. Crysis is designed to be PC exclusive," he said at the time.

Jordan Deam will be attending EA's press conference later today, where the company is expected to reveal details about the game and a whole lot more, so stay tuned!

Wait, what? So they're using a brand-new, more advanced engine than before to bring a sequel of a game that could only work on computers to the consoles?

What part of this makes sense again?

Drop Crysis and give me Timesplitters 4, in the CryEngine 3 muahhahhahaha.

Crytek is a pretty cool studio, Yerli is a cool dude himself.

Cryengine 3 to answer your question. It's essentially cryengine2 designed to work on consoles. it's far more optimized and flexible to use. The console version will still look scaled down slightly compared to the PC version but the game would be easily playable. Look up videos on cry engine 3 and you'll see how powerful and possible it is to play it on consoles.

My only concern about the whole multiplat thing is how dumbed down will it be, control and feature wise, to work on consoles. This will affect the PC version and I really don't want the games potential to go down or be affect by the consoles. I don't mean to sound like a PC fanboy but there is just that concern with me that some things might be scaled back or cut out because of this. Just have to wait and see I guess. here's hoping for some squad based combat, if Warhead was any hint towards that.

if most computers can barely run Crisis then what makes them think a more advanced engine will be playable on consoles?

I guess we can safely say that Yerli's word is no good. Like many executive types, he says whatever he wants to, to craft the image he wants. Truth is irrelevant.

In a way it doesn't, but Crytek bitched so much about piracy that the move to consoles was inevitable. Apparently selling over a million copies isn't good enough any more.

It's more advanced in the sense that it is more flexible for console gaming platforms as well as PCs. It also means that you won't need a face melting PC to play the game, because if it's being scaled down for consoles then the options to play it on realistically low settings will be available.

I can actually hear the fanboys screaming 'suck on that PCtards!'. But they don't know how much they helped PC gamers in a way.

Actually the new Cry engine has some graphical downgrades, but its more fluid and flexible for any platform.

Also...the reason that Crysis didn't sell that much, its cause they made a game for power house computers.

Crysis is to be played above high settings. MAny people don't have that type of PC so they A)Pirate it B)Don't Buy.

Pirates don't seem to need any excuse to pirate a game.

As for those who don't buy it because the reqs are too high... that's true. I certainly didn't plan on buying it until my PC was upgraded.

I dont mind this as long as:
1. Console fanboys see it as another reason to brand the Pc as dead.
2. The game is not dumbed down for consoles. They better keep multiple grenade, weapons firing modes and the ability to lean or i will be angry.
3. The graphical downgrades better not affect the Pc version. I am not a graphics fanboy i just hate it when tech takes backward steps to be more accomadating for consoles.

So now the plebs can revel in unoptimized engines, nonexistent patch support, gameplay with the depth of a teaspoon, poor multiplayer and rubbish balance as well?

For the record, since i saw it mentioned above, their tech demo of playig crysis on an xbox was done through a local version of OnLive, which mean they played in on a pc and used the console as an usb hub for their controller.

Or, considering that Yerli is known for spouting bullshit, it might be a pre-rendered video, which only proves that consoles are capable of streaming stuff, which is a standard feature on mobile phones these days.

If you don't have the PC to play it, then why pirate it?

And though crysis is certainly most notable for it's graphics, that hardly all it's good at. It's one of the most unique and interesting PC FPS that's come along in years.

Well GTA4 had even higher system requirements and it played good on consoles.

cryengine 3 is a heavily moddified cryengine 2 so Yerli isn't wrong besides even the most powerful of computers can't max crysis even a machine with an overclocked 3.66Ghz Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 coupled with GTX295 in Quad Sli (four GPU's about $1000)

2560x1600 is twice the pixels of 1080p and how many 1080p games can you think of on the 360/PS3 so PC fans don't worry the biggest part of the cryengine has been its scalabilty considering crysis even supported shader model 2.0 when shader model 4.0 cards were available dumbing down should not be a worry

Whoo! Here's hoping my friend buys it when it comes out, and that it doesn't red-ring his 360 in a week...
