OMGOMGOMG SHINY SHINY OBJECTS SO PURTY *droolz*

In all seriousness, it does look more like promotional stuff, but it does look nice, I guess...

Mostly just expensive, but also nice...

Good thing I traded my soul for Batman's gaming PC a couple of months ago.

I bet it STILL won't be able to run it on the highest settings.

They're touched up promo shots. I guarantee it. I'd bet $100 bucks on it. The original shots may have been based on in game shots, but they were touched up and modified after the fact. They probably used Photoshop (or some equivalent app) to smooth lines, add some specular lighting effects, and a healthy dose of HDR lighting to give each shot that "cinematic" feel. I don't doubt the CryEngine3 will be mind-bendingly advanced, but beyond super-computers, I don't see current or even up-and-coming hardware being able to run a game that looks THAT good, with that level of detail, that many on-screen objects, and that level of draw-distance, all in real-time.

I think you're all seriously overestimating how much power is needed for this game. The first game could run smoothly 1680 by 1050 on max settings with a $1,300 computer, maybe less. It could also run smoothly on low settings on my six year old computer that still uses AGP cards (a type of graphics card that hasn't been made since 2004 after being replaced by PCI).

It has a very accepting range of settings. Most people could run it fine but don't even try because of the generalizations against it.

OT: There's no doubt Crysis 2 will look spectacular, but those screenshots seem a little too amazing, so they've probably been touched up.

P.S. I hope it doesn't change from exciting firefights to omgaliens halfway through again.

While I do sympathise with a lot of the people complaining - you are correct. The majority of people here are whinging because they want to be able to play this game with all settings maxed - just like all the other current-gen games on the market. I think they forget that games like this are more of a long-term investment because honestly, playing it a couple years down the track again once hardware catches up (on max settings) will be like playing the game all over again for most.

p.s they really ruined the flow of the first game with that alien level huh, I was all like 'shiver me timbers this games flawle...wait... zero-g? annoying floaty sparkly aliens? GOLLY GEE!' :(

These screenshots are mildly misleading. The "screens" with the Nanosuit in them look fantastic but are provably not in-game. Take a look at the suit, and pay close attention. Every single ridge on that is not normal-mapped, but modelled. There isn't a single engine available that can handle polycounts like that for a character and there is an unholy level of Anti-Aliasing. All of this points to them being promotional shots, rather than ingame.

Seriously, they should just sell a computer with the game because anyone who wants to play this is going to end up spending some serious cash just to run it on normal. If you want to play it smoothly on high detail, you will have to wait for the technology to catch up. That should take only 5 or 6 years.

Holy mother of games that my computer piece of fossilized Dinosaur feces can't run.

I hope that's promo art. If not, my computer piece of fossilized Dinosaur feces may die simply out of envy.
Yeah... that's basically my situation.

Anyone remember Crysis and how no one could run it until two years later (now)?

Yea. I remember that. 'Twas fun. Time to start the cycle again.
ugh so sick of people saying this garbage. Most people could run it fine, it was their choice not to or like most pc gamers refuse to play a game that isnt on absolutely maximum detail and like 100fps. The minimum requirements are really nothing even for 2 years ago they are pretty basic.

Im sure if its on consoles you wont need much of a PC to run it.
I didn't mean running on minimum detail or anything like that. I mean running on MAX detail, which is what these screenshots were taken at. I'm not sure what the requirements for max detail will be for Crysis 2, but I'm pretty sure they will be the most demanding game like Crysis was and has been for two years.

And the graphics will be brought down for the console version. Unless they've said something about it being run at max graphics on the consoles.. ?

Just like the original, this game is going to look pretty but it's going to have shalllow and bland gameplay. This game is going to be nothing more than just eye-candy, just like Crysis and Crysis Warhead.
Define why it's shallow please?
I'm pretty sure Crysis stands out as one of the more free-roaming FPS' on the market not to mention it incorporates a multitude of ways to approach a lot of situations with different tactics.

Is it coming out for Game Boy: Advance?

No, but seriously, you can buy a $700 pc to run the original Crysis at full specs with no AA:

I heard that the only graphical innovations in Crysis 2 were for optimization, so I'm sure you could play it with an even cheaper pc.

any word on a release date, or a least a release on specs? I might hold of building a new rig until I find out the specs of it...

It's not screen shots, I can pretty much guarantee that.

Plus, I'd really like to see some game-play footage, and then I'll judge if it's worth the time.

For fucksake, the CryEngine looks good enough already. I mean come on Crytek, you're already like a bloody decade ahead of everyone, mind spending your time optimizing it a little? You know, so we don't have to kill ourselves over a machine that could run it?

A little optimizing, and you'll have your Unreal killer.
Cryengine 3 is just a tweaked version of cryengine 2. They actually downgraded a lot of the stuff to have it run on the consoles, though they've implemented many optimizations to it. I'm hoping the PC version still remains unadulterated with maximum graphical flexibility.

For example (watch in HD please):

Largely theoretical for me, anyway. Unless Crytek pulls a Chris Taylor and makes Crysis 2 have LOWER system requirements, I won't be able to play it at all - I have to turn the dial on Crysis 1 down to 1280x720 to get a decent frame rate.

Crytek developed a thing called Polybump. I'm not sure how it works, but it reduces the polycount a lot.

I'm not saying they're ingame screenshots though. Crysis didn't look as good as some of the screenshots.
