It took only 18 or so months for medium~high grade gaming computers to be able to run Crysis on max, and that's without the optimization mods. I'm fairly certain that Crytek said at GDC09 that CryEngine 3 is much better optimized compared to CE2 and can scale to insane amounts (as in, function on machines as shitty as the Wii and still push crazy gaming PC rigs). And more recently there's been hints that Crysis 2 will need less stuff than Crysis did.Jeronus said:Seriously, they should just sell a computer with the game because anyone who wants to play this is going to end up spending some serious cash just to run it on normal. If you want to play it smoothly on high detail, you will have to wait for the technology to catch up. That should take only 5 or 6 years.
seriously? i have a 500 dollar laptop and i can run crysis medium just fine without crashing.Macflash said:I think the pictures need more bloom and antialiasing. Because for $3000 I might be able to play that game, and that would hardly live up to crysis 1. (Side note, I have yet to find a computer that doesnt crash when I try to play crysis 1, since they all die on its graphics.)
well.. they know they are going to sell that thing to all the ones that can run it,so they know those are sold!zala-taichou said:What's the use of a game that nobody can play full graphics when it is released anyway? Don't get me wrong *drools*, but isn't that just boxing yourself in into a niche market?
Still, I think more developers should do that stuff, just for kicks. Advanced graphics are awesome.
There isn't a rig alive that can anti-alias Crysis at 16x+ (Actually these shots look more like multisampling to my eye) at much above 4 fps. These grabs need to be taken with 1-2 grains of salt.saejox said:these caps have some unholy anti-alising. definitely pre-rendered. if not we need 10ghz cpus.
Cool rant, Hansel.TOGSolid said:Whoopdee doo, another game from Crytek.
Sure, they're good at coding an engine, but they are absolutely TERRIBLE at making a game with coherent gameplay. Both Far Cry 1 and Crysis suffered from the exact same problem, They started out with a decent enough idea for a game and then completely cocked it all up by removing everything that made the game at least a little fun, and replacing it with one giant you vs weird looking thingies shooter gameplay. Sure Far Cry/Crysis let you have a toy of some sort that did all sorts of neat stuff, and they give you a few opportunities to get creative and try different combinations and ideas, but then they take it all away and replace it with mutants/aliens that you can't do anything to besides just shoot a lot. Crytek has proven that it is incapable of learning from its mistakes, and unless everyone comes back from playing Crysis 2 saying "holy god, they fixed it," then I'm not interested. At the most I'll just use the demo, if there is one, as a benchmarking tool and that's it.
