Well that game released pretty quietly I gotta say. Also I can't even find a thread for it on the first few pages, so here we go.
I just watched a chunk of the Bro Stream of Crysis 3 and... it looks terrible. Well, it doesn't look terrible... but that's the problem right there, isn't it? Does anyone really play/buy this game for anything other than the visuals? The gameplay is the exact same as part 2, incredibly linear and absolutely NO ONE enjoys fighting the aliens. And you're in for a treat: more aliens.

So my question stands, is anyone getting this for anything other than the graphics? I'm not. I was so utterly bored with part 2 even the pretty pictures couldn't save it.

I liked Crysis for its open world and being able to go at an outpost in multiple different ways. Crysis 2 did not allow this and that's why I hated it(don't like linear games).

I'v read that in crysis 3 it's more like the original in that stance, so I'll probably will enjoy it although you saying it's incredibly linear worries me.
I can't wait to play this maxed at 1920x1080 and see how my machine handles it.

Also do you know whether there is modding for this one?
Do you know if they have demos for it as I don't want to drop ?60 euro just to find out it's like Crysis 2.

No idea if there's modding. There's no demo this time, though. But you probably won't have to wait long for a price drop. Part 2 went budget really fast.

Thanks for the quick reply, guess I'll just have to wait and see from the masses if it's worth the money.

Well that was real quiet, won't do good for sales.

I'm really not interested anymore, I got Crysis 2 because there was still a slight pinch of hope they are again pushing engines to the next level... but they aren't, or that they got good at game design... nope again, so going for their next game just doesn't make sense to me.

I recently re-played Crysis and Crysis 2 in preparation for Crysis 3.
When I finished Crysis, I thought to myself "Man, why isn't Crysis one of the blockbuster franchises of the industry?".
When I finished Crysis 2, I remembered why Crysis isn't one of the blockbuster franchises of the industry.

I honestly feel the Crytek guys just looked at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and thought to themselves "We have a prettier graphics engine, if we do that game in our engine we'll be billionaires because customers are idiots and always prefer the better looking game".

Reviews are kinda 7-8 on Crysis 3, which is on par with Crysis 2. However, Crysis 2 almost tried to be a forgettable and unoriginal game, so I'm still gonna pass.

Eh, think I'll wait for a price drop. I always had a soft spot for Crysis, thought 1 was good (that whole alien ship bit was absolute shit), 2 was pretty good with a lot of flaws, and it looks like these flaws haven't been fixed.

I always thought the suit was incredibly clunky-like, unintuitive to use and not at all what I expected from being a super-soldier. 3 looks the same.
I have to agree with the suit. You can do a lot of things but I feel like when I try to do them it doesn't flow properly like it doesn't feel natural and that's how I think it should be.

Will probably try it since I have this new fascination for bow like weapons ever since I played FC3.

For me that moment was the first time aliens showed up in Crysis. The Crytech guys tend to trip up when they introduce the sci-fi elements, having the same problem in Far Cry when it went from brilliant open-world fights with mercenaries to endless encounters with mutants.

Played Crysis 3 a bit last night and am largely enjoying it, but it really feels like it should go full sandbox like Far Cry 3 did. I'm slightly more impressed with the aliens this time around as they move quickly through the tall grass, so there's a notable sense of tension whenever you stumble into one of their areas.

Why do you keep referring to Crysis 2 as "part 2"? That's not how it works...

Also, the gunplay in the first Crysis game was absolute balls. Even before the aliens were introduced, it took far too long to kill human enemies compared to how much damage they dealt to you, a super-soldier in a supposedly high-tech power suit. Cover mechanics and stealth didn't work because new enemies would always spawn any time you killed another guy, and you couldn't approach head-on because even with the armor you could only take about five shots before dying.

And the "open world"? Hah. Yeah, they slap you down in a square space that's filled with nothing but vegetation and a few enemies, and then tell you to trek back and forth across the map to meet objective locations that are disconnected and far away from each other. Sure, you could jump into a camp from any direction you wanted, but it's not like that actually changed how you approached the situation in any way except literally.

At least in Crysis 2 they provide you with things like sniping locations, cover locations for head-on assaults, or secondary areas designed for stealth. The areas are a lot smaller, but there's still multiple ways of moving around them and it's no more "linear" than the first Crysis was (because having a "sandbox" doesn't mean you're not a linear game, especially when there's nothing to do in the sandbox except go to your next objective). Also, enemies don't take nearly as many shots to kill and ammo is more plentiful, meaning you could actually use a weapon you wanted to use instead of needing to bum weapons off of enemy corpses because it's the only way you won't run out of ammo in the middle of a firefight.

So while I may not have Crysis 3 yet, I'm certainly looking forward to it, as I preferred Crysis 2 over the first game.

Crysis and Warhead were great. Crysis 2 was too dumbed down and just dull in comparison, and I heard 3 was worse, so doubt I'll get it at all.

Because fuk da police

I actually agree with your critique on part 1 (ghe ghe ghe). I found the gunplay terrible and the ragdoll physics ruined the immersion for me. Shooting incredibly well rendered people in an incredibly beautiful world felt completely fake. I wasn't any more thrilled by part 2 however. Okay, a little more than the first game, but still, I had to rewatch Yahtzee's review on it because I couldn't for the life of me remember what the hell even happened in that game.
