I was just checking out the trailer for the upcoming Far Cry 2 game when I decided to watch this old trailer for Crysis: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/126564.html

I don't remember seeing half of the (great) things that are shown in that trailer, "tac ammo" where did that go? All I have is a stupid thing that makes them sleepy on impact! The guns, hud, binoculars, scopes, levels, AI and vehicles look different (and better). Have I been playing some sort of dumbed down version of Crysis or is everybody missing out on that stuff too?

They are both made by totally different dev teams. CryTek made Far Cry, Crysis and Crysis:War Head. Far Cry 2 was made by Ubisoft Montreal. So they are not even the same teams as the original. It makes sense that FC2 is all different from the others.

I was dissapointed by that too, since that promised things like helicopter goes into air and then you make pilot sleep, KA BOOM, dissapointing.

Thankfully I used the demo

It's known as the Peter Molyneux school of game design. Zing!

Seriously though, this sort of thing happens a lot. You can safely assume that at least 50% of what you see in any E3 demo is complete BS. Half-Life 2 anyone?

I also like how in that trailer they talk about the asteroid event being a recent thing. Whoops. Although that would have made more sense in the actual game...

Yeah, lately I'm not putting must trust in "previews".

Half-Life 2 (even though it was awesome, it changed a LOT)
Fable (I still enjoyed it - but where was everything they PREVIEWED?)
Spore (wtf? I still like this game too, but wtf?)

So I haven't been giving Fable 2 or Far Cry 2 any attention. I figure once I play it and I'm not let down by any expectations, I'll thoroughly enjoy it.

Games change during production due to limited finances, resources (i.e. time and manpower), technological constraints, ideas just not working out in practice, etc. It's a very common occurrence.

"Tac ammo" in this case probably got removed because it was too powerful, honestly. Those tranquiliser darts are pretty damn effective as it is, so long as there aren't too many enemies nearby.

I always hated it's mysterious side effect that rendered you unable to pick up a gun from a sleeping guard.

I think he means the game Crysis is lacking some of the features he thought there would be. Nothing to do with Far Cry.
I get it now. I do not watch crap like previews for games for the most part. I only watch gameplay videos now, so that way I am never disappointed.

I never used them... First time I played through Crysis I didn't even know they existed, second time and in warhead I never saw a use for them. Putting a bullet through an enemy's skull is always more effective and just as silent if you have a silencer and hit the head... They always did feel like something was left "unfinished".

Then again, I never saw the use of being silent anyways... Almost everytime you drop a korean they all figure where you're around anyways, might as well just head to high ground and start sniping, which I usually did.

i dont trust gamevideos at all. any good advertising team can make a crappy game look amazing with videos.

the formula is "start off slow, sneak around, then have about 20 different scenes of him shooting and stuff randomly blowing up, then flash a sign saying coming ??/??/??

Yeah, this does seem to happen a lot. Has anyone gone back and looked at some of the old trailers for oblivion? Not only do the characters in them seem much less like automatons, but there's even one that shows that they cut out an entire city which was supposed to be north and a little west of of Anvil.

I've said this many times, but I guess little repetition doesn't do much harm.

Original story: apocalypse-sized asteroid crashes to Earth, without doing the apocalypse part. North Koreans get to the crash site first. US then sends black ops to get to the asteroid too.

Changed story: evil NKs captured the princess archaelogists! Time for heroic goody goody Americans to save the day! Release the redshirts and cliches!
