Where do you see gaming in 20 years in terms of technology and its place in society?

For example, do you think that VR will be the dominant gaming platform of 2028? Do you think gaming will overtake television as the most participated in of all mediums? Do you think Starcraft....whatever version will be an Olympic sport with gold, silver and bronze going to South Korea?

Please divulge your crazy theories here and make like the oracle, only without the mind-altering drugs (shame though).

VR helmets with crudely implemented mental controls. Well-made descendants of the power glove with finger position and motion sensors. Naturally, unauthorised mods will enable these devices to serve as a safe alternative to teenage sex, which by that point will seem tame compared to the gruesome horrors unleashed via videogames and the internet and ultimately revolutionise videogaming in the eyes of North America as 19 year old mothers buy the mods en masse for their 9 year old daughters in the hopes of ending a vicious cycle.
Murder simulators will come with force feedback body weights that will effectively train the muscle strength and reflexes of adolescents and worldwide military enrollment will be at an all-time high before we cotton on to the fact that Jack Thompson was right all along. World War five will start in September of 2029 but in spite of us having the most technologically advanced weaponry and intense training ever devised by humankind, the war will last only eight minutes and claim four lives before every armed soldier throws down their weapon in disgust to declare the conflict "bullshit" due to "fukkin hax".

My prediction is similar to the previous one. VR helmets will indeed be the future-- however, several years after they are implemented Virtual Reality will become the new Reality. Instead of living in the real world, society as we know it will take place inside the most absurdly complex simulator ever imagined, which at its early stages will mirror life in the mid 20th century. As the virtual world evolves, we will eventually develop video games to be played inside the virtual world-- though these will be crude, simple games.

The process of video game evolution will then repeat itself-- again.[/cryptic]

Video games will have reached the point of photorealism and online with no lag. All except for maybe the Nintendo Woo, which might not be able to quite capture all 350 of (insert character here)'s armpit hairs. Actually they will go past photorealism. Nerds will have even less incentive to go outside because "the bad graphics make my eyes hurt." They will also complain about real life girls lacking the jiggle physics found in Dead or Alive Extreme Buttsecks/Tickling Competition To The Max 3.

Controllers will be custom-made to perfectly fit each person's hand.

A second teaser trailer of Duke Nukem Forever will be made.

Also, Starcraft practically IS an Olympic Sport in South Korea. But internationally, it will become one of those "sports" that goes largely unnoticed by the mainstream public (ie, Curling). The exception of course being people who are "in the know" about games.

Maybe we won't wage wars on each other, instead, we'll be playing Counter-Strike or TF2 to solve conflicts.
