^^ Have to agree.

Although, I don't think something that is popular isnt cult... you can have large cults can't you? Look at Christianity, thats just a large cult isnt it?

While yes, things that "sell out" and become a bit too mainstream might lose cult status... would you still say Marvel has a cult following? i.e. Lots of diehard fans who will buy numpty thousand different universe of comics, but its a very "in-crowd" kind of thing. Whereas the movies are all mainstream, but I wouldn't say it makes the comic side lose the cult status? Even tho they are the same interlectual proporties.

It's the same with the Godfather movies, the movies can still be cult, even tho a few crappy games have been made of it. Most things have crappy games made for them now. It shouldn't detract from the original piece as a classic/cult icon.

This is true. After all, one of the requirements of cult is that "people don't understand its genius".

Rocky Horror, World of Warcraft and CS are all enjoyed by thousands of people per day. Its pseudo-cult, if anything. People thinking they've discovered a rare treat whereas in fact its widely known.

While some Anime can be seen as cult, Neon Genesis Evangelion is certainly not one of them. It is a widely popular anime, while it may not be widely known in America, it is stupidly popular elsewhere in the world.

Haha, well played.

Someone else mentioned The Crow, my favourite film. My original reaction was "cult, really?", I always assumed it was reasonably popular, but then I consider how many times I've had to explain what it's about when I suggest watching it with friends... I'm gonna have to agree.

Do things like The Mighty Boosh still count as cult?
