I'm currently quite broke and i'm looking for a game that's awesome that costs about a pound.
I'm using CEX.com here in the uk (which if you're looking for older titles from last gen is
f£cking awesome!)

i'm going to buy Psi ops; http://uk.webuy.com/product.php?sku=5037930080791 which costs 1 pound but i need to have an order of 2 pounds at least before I can get it shipped (its free one day delivery too, sweet!)

I cant think of anything i might want so I ask you, its only a quid and I cant bring myself to just buy anything haha.

any ideas? any platform, i have all three current consoles, a ps2 and a gaming pc. accumulated over many years.

Just kidding :D

I'd try and find something on Steam if you are looking for a PC game. You can't get much for just a quid but you can get pretty decent stuff if you can spare a fiver.

Have you considered using sites that supply either freeware or abandonware? A game for nowt is even cheaper than a game for a quid.

good idea actually, I remember trying to find some free games out of curiosity a few years back but only managed to find the original alone in the dark without having to sign up to some backwards download service.

do you know any good ones?

Try testing Pirates of the Burning Sea on the PC. Its F2P now. Champions Online is F2P as well.

The only site I really use is [link]http://www.dosgames.com/[/link]. I've never had any problem with the site (security/viruswise etc) and all of the programs such as DosBox are available there too. Plus it's click and go, no download service agreement.

Other sites like [link]http://www.abandonia.com/[/link] have a good selection too, but I've never gotten anything from them so couldn't speak as to their download policies.

Steam is expensive, but it's all about savvy shopping, over the past week or so, Batman AA GOTY, Just Cause 2, the latest few Tomb Raiders, both Kane n Lynchs (Yeah, I know) and Supreme Commander 2 have all been under a fiver, with the Hitman games going for about £1.50 each I think.

I'd also recommend www.hotukdeals.com, it's an 'everything' site, a community about special offers and misprices and the like, but when there's a good game offer, it'll show there.

Like the Burnout Paradise for free thing over xmas.

EDIT: Might only be for the next 40 minutes but Civ IV complete is £3.75 and that's a LOT of game for your money, and popular opinion seems to be it's better than V until they sort out a bunch of issues with V.

I'd certainly be interested in knowing more cheap options for console games however, especially for the last generation (PS2/Xbox)

some great suggestions guys, thanks! I just found this site: http://www.squakenet.com/games/top_100_download.asp?pag=1

its got older games like fallout 1+2, Quake and even MGS1 (which I didn't know was on pc) but i'm not sure if its legal... seems to be an abandonware site.

There are so many free to play MMO's out now that gaming for nothing is pretty easy.

You could try Dungeons and Dragons Online.
I found the combat really fun with that game.
